i realized how important translation is and how easy it is to change the meaning of something the two translations were so different that it changed the whole meaning of the poem if i didnt see the bottom meaning i would have never known what was actually being said #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
Yingelishi made me feel like i was being spoken to directly. like the people speaking and something important to tell me but i was not able to find the meaning #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
in the beginning I tried to listen to see if I could understand what was being said. when i could hear a few english words I kept on trying but after a few poems i stopped trying to understand #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
a question he left behind is that why did he choose to do it in both languages-- its like an anagram in a way! you flip it one way, its in Chinese and one understands, and flip it another way and it's like warped English! it's so cool! #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
a possibility Yingelishi opened is to keep understanding ambiguous to the listener! not everyone has to understand the same thing the same way #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
the piece disrupted my idea of translation because it caused me to realize i dont have to understand the meaning to feel something about how the song is conveying-- they say music is a universal language for a reason #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
Yingelishi definitely made a beautiful sense in my body -- the music truly was calming and idk if it was the flute or what but it was really listenable #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
I stopped trying to understand what she was saying around 2 mins into the video -- i started focusing on feeling and background music #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
Yingelishi acted on me as a listener by showing how I don't really need to understand the main language to convey feeling or meaning. this changed the way i think for future smes because im in my antielement -- im not udnerstanding the complete meaning but i piece it #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
I feel almost mistreated as a listener. It like pulls me in wanting more even though I can not actually understand despite the fact I can understand some of it. Overall, I am left confused and yet seeking more. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
It made very little sense in my body but left me deeply satisfied and wanting more. I have an itch in my brain that is baffled by the whole process of this and what exactly I just listened to. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
I want to learn more on yingleshi's process throughout the entire making #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
I am not entirely sure how this will change what I will make in future SME as I certainly not do this with two languages. However, perhaps I can make multi purposed deeply layered things that behind the curtains can mean something different from in front of them. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
it makes me wonder and keeps me guessing on how different people had reactions to this because we are all so culturally different with various experiences that it must have been very interesting #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
My idea of translation is a little battered for sure. How is it even possible that these words can be so close to English words and make different sense in both languages. Truly insane. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
Can something have meaning without being understood? #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
I also do like the idea of just adding something completely out of place, or just like a switch in tone or tempo or anything to keep the listener engaged and to get a reaction, whatever it may be, out of them. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
From this I will definitely take into account on speed and background noises for the upcoming SME. Even though ours won't be 15+ minutes long, it is still important to make whatever's playing even worth listening and worth paying attention to and not just background noise. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
Like I said in one of my previous tweets, if the singing was just any speed faster, I think it would've helped not only hearing the words better, but also just keeping me engaged and not feel bored after awhile. #hwa4 #whatlisteningmakes
