A new bird discovered my #birdfeeder today - the #WhiteCrownedSparrow. It spent a good part of the afternoon eating - testing the much smaller #SongSparrow patience. Finally, it couldn’t hold back and a short-lived squabble broke out. He’s brave!

There was a #ChippingSparrow at the feeder earlier this morning until a larger #SongSparrow broke it up.

The young chipping sparrows are such tiny birds. They can’t be more than 3” high.

A small Song Sparrow with a streaky dark brown and black back and tail, white chest with dark streaks that form a central spot on the breast, a mix of reddish-brown and gray stripes on the head with a gray eyebrow line and a dark stripe on the side of the throat, and pinkish legs and feet. This bird was puffed up and looking very round as it perched on a brown branch of a tree in the early morning sunlight. There were more brown branches and many green leaves in the background. Seen at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Concord, Massachusetts.

A brown bird streaked with white stands on some brown mulch. It had a rustier brown on its wings and the top of its head. Song sparrows visited my feeders where I used to live for decades, so seeing one makes me very happy.
