Let's return to our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, Liberton Kirk in Edinburgh, for a late evening #SteepleSaturday virtual visit.

This beautiful Georgian kirk was designed by James Gillespie Graham, on the site of a much earlier Christian church, utilising the remains of its demolished predecessor.

The church, with its square tower can be seen in he background, the crow-stepped gable and little chimney of the session house is in the foreground. The bold square tower of Liberton Kirk can be seen through the trees on a sunny day. There gravestones in the foreground and the doors of the church are painted a vivid red colour. This is a view of the church from the side. There is scaffolding around one side of the church and the graveyard in the foreground in in the shade from the overhanging trees. This is another view of the church, from the rear. Its roofline rises to a triangle shape, topped with a crucifix. More scaffolding can be seen to the side of the building. More graves are visible in the foreground.

It's #FontsOnFriday time again, so here's the rather lovely carved oak example in our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, Liberton Kirk in Edinburgh

It was presented in 1930 by the children of the congregation and houses a much older pewter font bowl that may have come from the Georgian kirk's earlier pulpit

A carved oak pedestal font, with a pewter bowl insert. It is octagonal in shape and has carving around its edge, described in the next image Alt Text.

The font sits on a blue carpet in front of similarly styled and coloured wood panelling and a balustrade.
This image shows the octagonal oak font in greater detail. It has individual panel, with carved inserts, that included a depiction of a winged cherub like head. There is also writing carved around the pewter bowl (this is described in the next Alt Text)Around the pewter bowl insert are the words "Presented by the children of Liberton Parish Church 1930"

It's #AdoorableThursday, so let's head back to our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, Liberton Kirk in Edinburgh.

Its fabulous doors are all painted bright red, a much beloved feature of this Georgian church. Local rumour asserts that this colour was once chosen due to access to surplus GPO postbox paint!🖌️📮

A bright red-painted Gothic pointed arch shaped door is shown, it sits at the base of the projecting tower of Liberton Kirk.

Let's take a virtual wander inside Liberton Kirk, our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek and have a look at its pulpit for this week's #Woodensday.

The cabinet above the oak pulpit may look like an overly ornate sounding board or canopy, but it once housed the pipes for an expensive Ingram & Co organ.

A view of the wooden pulpit and chancel furnishings in Liberton Kirk. The pulpit has large Gothic traceried windows on either side and staircase leading up to it. A Cross can be seen in the centre of the cabinet that sits above.A close up of the pulpit and communion table and minister's and elders' chairs. An embroidered pulpit fall hangs from the pulpit.

Let's return to our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, Liberton Kirk in Edinburgh, for #TombTuesday.

This fine memorial to Sir John Baird, Lord Newbyth (1620-98), is located in the vestry, in what is said to be a converted family burial vault.

The Baird family's heraldic boar has been included at the top.

A fine carved marble tomb, in white and grey-veined polished marble is affixed to the wall. It is embellished with what looks like two vases on either side at the top and tow high-relief skulls and crossbones at the bottom. A Latin inscription commemorating the John Baird of Newbyth and family is written across the centre of the memorial.A white carved marble coat of arms, showing a boar, with a sword above, on an ermine background. The scene is surrounded by carved acanthus leaves and a scallop shell motif.

Sitting in a commanding position, overlooking the city of Edinburgh, is our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, Liberton Kirk. A church is thought to have been built here in 1143 by King David I.

But archaeological and documentary evidence suggests a church was founded here at least a century before.

Our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, St Mary's Episcopal, Aberfoyle, has a fine interior.

Eyes are immediately drawn to the striking arched timber roof. Also, the carved oak-panelled reredos, installed in 1950, but bearing the date 1683, is worth mentioning on #WoodensDay.

A picturesque Arts & Crafts treasure by James Miller, within a garden, is our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek, St Mary's Episcopal, Aberfoyle.

It was built in 1893, by workers from the local slate quarry using stone from Ailsa Craig brought by rail to test the weight capacity of the new branch line.
