Neil Peart (1952–2020)

'The Professor' — rock's most analytical drummer and its most private star, who answered fan adulation by riding his motorcycle alone between gigs. He lost his daughter and wife within a year and drummed his way back from grief. A titan.

Auf "The Velvet Underground & Nico" (1967) sang die deutsche Sängerin Nico neben Lou Reed. Trotz anfänglicher Bann-Wellen wurde es 2006 ins National Recording Registry aufgenommen. #RockHistory #ProtoPunk

Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" (2010) was their first album without late drummer "The Rev" — yet his written parts and vocal takes remain on the record as a tribute. #RockHistory #Metal

The album that free #DireStraits from the spell & broke the chain of the essential 1st album. A collection of great songs from solid rock to cabaret and from prog related songs to touchy esotericism. It's brilliant.

With 'The River' #BruceSpringsteen proves that he can describe human relationships as very few. No wonder why the incredible 20-track double album would become a launching point for his career.

Geddy Lee (b. 1953)

The helium-high voice, the busiest bass hands in rock, and a baseball obsessive who owns one of the world's great bass collections. Rush's improbable, beloved frontman.

Das 28-Track-Doppelalbum "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" (1995) stieg auf Platz 1 der Billboard 200 ein und wurde mit Diamant (über 10 Mio. in den USA) ausgezeichnet. #RockHistory #Grunge

Rush (1968–2018)

Three Canadians, no hits to speak of, and one of the most devoted fanbases in rock. Sci-fi epics, 20-minute suites, and Neil Peart's drumming that launched a million practice pads. Critics shrugged; the faithful built shrines.

"Let There Be Rock" (1977) was AC/DC's fourth studio album and the last to feature bassist Mark Evans – first in Australasia, then internationally via Atlantic. #RockHistory #ClassicRock

Paul McCartney nahm sein Solodebut "McCartney" (1970) heimlich und größtenteils zuhause auf, spielte alles selbst. Ein Eigeninterview in den Promo-Kopien löste die Beatles-Trennung aus. #RockHistory #ClassicRock

Ian Anderson (b. 1947)

The one-legged-stance, flute-wielding frontman of Jethro Tull, who turned a folk instrument into a rock weapon. Also, improbably, one of Britain's biggest salmon farmers. Rock's most eccentric polymath.
