@radium26.bsky.social📚🪐 The little details 😐 especially technology. Normally I love tech + science & reading up on it is super interesting…but the #RadiumAge is not hard sci-fi. It’s a love letter to a long-lost era in ‘soft’ sci-fi which means I have to come up with tech that’s…plausibly fantastical.
@radium26.bsky.social📚🪐 Even though I love coming up with descriptions of places & organisations, technologies & history…what I enjoy most is populating the world. My notebooks are full of profiles on the people living in the #RadiumAge - they all make the place seem more real.
@radium26.bsky.social📚🪐 I like to start with a place and a ‘feel.’ With my #RadiumAge setting, I started with the City of Great Britain and worked out to the rest of the world from there. As for the ‘feel’ - I knew from the start I wanted that pulp sc-fi, dystopian ‘metropolis’ vibe.
@radium26.bsky.social📚 So Eddy wears a uniform that’s provided by her department. She doesn’t hate it (in fact she’s proud of it in some ways) but she’d love to know why on Earth she has to wear gaiters in a city…

@radium26.bsky.social📚 So in ‘Gangs,’ the main antagonist is absolutely, 100% deadly serious. He has a mission and he will complete it, no matter the cost. There *are* certain gang leaders however who really enjoy wielding power over others. Some of them live like kings.

@radium26.bsky.social📚 That’s a tricky question and Eddy’s even trickier. I think she has a sense of honour but perhaps doesn’t realise it. She’s committed to doing what she believes is the right thing but she doesn’t always understand that it’s because of her sense of justice.
