#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... some stellar finds with three first county records - Cattle Egret (first of two), Bearded Tit (still the only record) and Yellow-rumped Warbler (first of three). The Pechora Pipit is the most recent of six records. #rarebirds

#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... the Yellow-billed Cuckoo is the second of four county records and the Western Bonelli's Warbler the third of seven. Pine Bunting has yet to be recorded away from the North Isles. All bar two of Orkney's 15 Lanceolated Warblers have been on North Ronaldsay. #rarebirds
#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... the county's first Western Black-eared Wheatear was found on, where else, North Ronaldsay. Bewick's Swan is also a standout rarity here with none recorded since 2014. The Woodlark was one of three found on uninhabited Auskerry in 1912 (1) and 1913 (2). #rarebirds
Surely that Nutcracker dam will burst soon and one will make it across the Channel. I don't know what the build up was ahead of the 1998 Kent bird (the last to make it here). Orkney and Shetland have only one record each so I won't hold my breath for an #OrkneyBirding one. #rarebirds
#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... the county's first Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Radde's Warbler were recorded. The Pied wheatear is the most recent of seven records and so long overdue for a reoccurrence. Five Great Grey Shrikes have been found today! How times change. #rarebirds
#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... a top find was the county's first Two-barred (Greenish) Warbler (ten years later the second was found just last week). Otherwise two Blue Tits in the North Isles are notable with other double-finds today being Mediterranean Gull, Shore Lark and Firecrest #rarebirds
"Good Still Bunting"

An exhilarating seawatch this morning on North Ronaldsay with a Fea’s/Desertas type petrel passing the hide! Also 127 Sooty Shearwaters mostly passing at close range and a Slavonian Grebe #OrkneyBirding
Brilliant, Steph. Grey and white birds very much the norm up here from October onwards. Them that peep go down as tristis and them that don’t as collybita. Tristis also often on the ground.
#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... remarkably, the Siberian Blue Robin is the second Orkney record (first = 2 Oct 2001) and not the expected 1CY! Other standout finds include the county's second Red-eyed Vireo, three Great Grey Shrikes and Blue and Great tits in the North Isles. #rarebirds
"Fed & Berried"
♀️ Blackbird (Turdus merula) at Grimbister, #Orkney.

#OnThisDay #OrkneyBirding ... the Red-rumped Swallow is the earliest of the three Orkney autumn records. Three Red-flanked Bluetails sees the start of the main finding period for this species - the Birsay record is notable as is one of only four found away from the North Isles. #rarebirds
