Edward McGuire’s portrait (1974) of Seamus Heaney was commissioned early in the poet’s career. Heaney later said that he admired ‘the gathered-up, pent-up, head-on quality' in his portrait.

A painted portrait of a young Seamus Heaney. He sits at a white table covered with a white linen tablecloth. He has a book open in his hands, but looks straight ahead at the viewer, with a solemn expression. Behind him is a large window, which we can see is filled with large green leaves, among which are many birds.

Joining today's #OnlineArtExchange with the magnetic gaze and untamed elegance of Mademoiselle Lantelme, captured by the brush of Jules-Alexandre Grün.

A vision of Belle Époque grace, where bold charisma meets the timeless art of reinvention.

@artukdotorg.bsky.social

A half-length Belle Époque portrait of French actress Geneviève Lantelme, painted by Jules-Alexandre Grün. She is depicted with voluminous, copper-red hair styled up, holding her arms up behind her head.
