“So you claim, but you did mention it while we’re here all alone, in your cabin, and I’m dressed in only a robe while trying to find reasons to not go. Maybe you could convince me?” He shot Stede his most flirtatious look, hoping it was still good, since he hadn’t deployed it in literal years. Maybe he’d developed a squint. But nah, Stede’s expression went all soft and kind of determined.

“I’d like to do my convincing while you’re not distracted. If you can promise me your undivided attention, I’d love to see to your morning.”

“You have it.” Ed didn’t want to go, and he’d been wanting this so badly. Stede’s eyes were on him, filled with hot intent, and Ed was growing hard under that gaze.

“Okay, yes. I’d love to.” Stede’s smile was tiny, but fierce, one canine on view that Ed wanted to lick. “Just let me, uh…fuck.”

Stede scrambled to both doors, throwing the bolts, pulled the curtains shut, and then came back for his phone which he was typing on furiously. “I’m going to owe Lucius a huge favor, but good grief, it’s worth it.”

“Gonna let him sketch your dick?” Ed asked, unable to keep himself from the tease.

“He would consider that a fair trade for running interference for two separate groups of people.”

“Which reminds me, I still need your phone number.”

“Nah, chucked the fucker in a snowbank. I’m free, man.”

“Do you accept carrier pigeons?”

“Couriers, U.S. mail.”

“Letters in bottles?”

“Tossed up on my balcony? Problematic, with the potential glass breakage, but let’s try it.”

Stede laughed. “I’m just going to have to scale it in a proper Romeo situation.”

“As long as we do our best to not have a tragic misunderstanding.” Ed watched the marshmallows dissolving in his cocoa.

“I’m too old for tragic misunderstandings. I’ve outgrown them entirely. But ours, us, it wasn’t…it wasn’t a misunderstanding. I did what I thought I had to do, and I was wrong.”
