#OctoberWorldbuilders, good morning, Kira!

Net fishers on The Island mostly fish by dropping their nets directly off the sides of The Island; they know that, not too far down, The Island bends back underneath them. At the shore, there are literally fish swimming directly beneath their feet! …

Most people in most of the nations of Anura are farmers, but that’s not true everywhere. On the steppes of the Marches, in the Sea of Sands, and on the savanna of southwestern Mklaria, herdsmen predominate, and fishermen are more common…

Good morning, #OctoberWorldbuilders! This week is dedicated to the work and jobs done by people in your fictional world. Today's Q: What are some common jobs done by people in your setting? For instance, is it medieval with lots of farmers? A spaceship with engineers? Something else?

#TheDragonblood: We have farmers, healers, portal hub operators, scryers, enchanters and merchants, just to name a few. Some of these will get expanded upon in the coming days.

Nixtral remains a heavily agricultural world, even in the more modern eras when technology becomes more prominent. Farmers & ranchers remain the most common professions, though only a few are substantially wealthy due to the size of their landholdings.

Life on Mary's Island is a contemporary-fantasy setting and most people work in the magic school both full-time and part-time. The Georgian town is filled with small shops, diners, and workshops all run by families, and the town is surrounded by farms.

15. Common jobs

Tsentrin is a D&D-inspired setting, so there is always a need for guards, shopkeeps and various craftsfolk like smiths, fletchers and cartwrights.

Of course, if you have the right skills, you could become an adventurer! Though, the turnover rate is...high...

It is a medieval-ish setting, and there ARE a lot of farmers, but there are also some setting-specific jobs:

- Slayers: monster hunters
- Bastions: special cops who police the Slayers
- Some people make a killing selling their own blood

It's a Bronze Age setting and the most common jobs are all in food production - farming and herding mostly, but also significant amounts of aquaculture.

In the Nequinum world, the most common jobs are farmwork, herding, domestic service & manual labor.

In countries like Magalote, slavery is the most common "job", and a most undesired one.

My world is early industrial era so there is a lot of factory and construction jobs. In Port Tundari specifically, there is generational fishing jobs, but their main export is the copper ore that comes from the mines in the mountains #OctoberWorldbuilders #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompt

Gilded Essence has plenty of familiar jobs: farmers, builders, merchants, healers, craftspeople, caravan workers, guards, and adventurers.

But because magic is also currency, there are jobs built around that system too. People collect, store, transport, and account for...

Theryl is largely medieval in its setting, so you'll find a lot of farmers, blacksmiths, bakers and the like. You've got innkeepers for lodging, wagoners for transport, soldiers for protection, hunters for food, and so-on.

@mplbooks.bsky.socialOct 15, 2026, 3:21 PM

AElit is a largely pastoral society with some amount of farming as well. In D'robe, where the land is less optimal, they mostly fish. In both places, the usual other jobs are common: weavers, masons, carpenters, metallurgists, healers...

Roberto lives in a modern city very similar to ours, with the same jobs. There are farmers outside the city, and plenty of engineers to build roads and bridges and skyscrapers of course.

I have a futuristic sci-fi world with... lots of farmers.

And lots of people moving stuff around (freight on world and off, sometimes in spaceships)

And miners/prospectors (mostly in spaceships)

And beaurocracy.

W@wakken87.bsky.socialOct 15, 2026, 12:32 PM

since this is a ttrpg setting, a pretty common job for the young (not the most prolific, normal jobs are essential to keep society going) is that of the adventurer

there's a mix of the powerful ones of course and the lowly "go kill 4 wild boar and gather 4 moon flowers" type #octoberworldbuilders

That’s a great question, my seeing spans several universes with a variety of jobs on display

But i’ll stick to universes 1
It’s the closest to ours where some people are florists, hoteliers, work for the government, etc. except it’s also connected to a universes 🪡
