Pigpen & Sally work around Lovey (#redfox) for their free breakfast.

Why isn’t she attacking them in earnest? 🤔

Because she’s not a killing machine. She is an individual making choices around risk & reward.

Just like you do, every day.

The 1st time I saw a Spotted Towhee, he was barging across my driveway as if on his way to the House of Commons to thunder:

“We shall fight them in the shrubbery!”

And every Spotted Towhee has been Winston Churchill to me ever since.

A gorgeous Spotted Towhee. He is a stout bird with a barrel chest and long tail trailing his compact form. His head and throat are black, his wings are black with white spots, his sides are a gorgeous rufous orange color, his eyes are red, his beak is red, and his little feet look tiny under his big belly. We have placed a top hat on him, which is perfect as his coloring and shape look for all the world like a waist coat on a fine gentlemen.

Early #Fall is an excellent time for self care on Nighthawk Hill.

Just ask our Blue Jay friend.

He’s passing through on his trek downslope & booked a spa day.

Red Fox was on Dancing With the Stars last night.

And it must’ve been a Fox Trot! 🦊

On the left is Lovey & on the right is likely her kit.

This is play between 2 animals who know each other *very* well socially. 😍

It’s Fall on Nighthawk Hill.

Cool, misty mornings are the perfect time for Pigpen & Sally, our bonded pair of #ravens, to engage in allopreening.

This maintains physical health, strengthens bonds & releases stress.

Two American Ravens perch atop a large snag on a moody grey morning. Behind them is an enormous granite outcrop atop a hill. We can see mist/clouds & dark green pine trees at the base of the rocky Noddlehead.

A quick hike out to Comet Rock, where a few years ago we sat and watched NEOWISE.

Shhh… take a quick #MentalHealthMoment.

Being an Amateur #Naturalist is easy.

No technical vest or $4k telephoto lens needed.

Just: PJs, iPhone, curiosity, a willingness to get grubby, & zero shame.

It helps to have a husband who secretly photographs your brand of crazy. Clearly.

Sir, you’re doing concealment wrong.

#YourDailyThurston #fox #redfox #nature #photography #MyWildLife

A male red fox peeks at the camera from behind a pine bough, his left eye almost totally concealed, his right eye looking right at the camera, his ears up, face relaxed. His mid-September coat is a light coppery color in the I direct light, his cheeks, chin and throat a gorgeous soft white, on black front leg just visible.

The velvet rope Thurston has allowed me behind during our mornings together is the most beautiful VIP experience of my life.

A male red fox stands in front of a log in profile, his his turned over his right shoulder, the morning sun alighting his light brown eyes and gorgeous coppery fall coat topped off by an outrageously floofy tail with a bright white tip. His mouth is slightly open, making it appear as though he’s smiling.

Welcome to The Turkey Vulture Spa!

Here’s a gorgeous #vulture holding a horaltic pose in the morning sun.

Why? It assists with thermoregulation after a cool night, dries feathers damp w/ morning dew & kills bacteria, parasites & mites.

Have you ever considered an American Robin?

It’s a bird almost anyone in N. America can identify, but do most people really *see* it?

This beauty just landed & submitted its headshot for Wikipedia & Merlin consideration.
