Would you rather is such a great routine to get students thinking and sharing about mathematical relationships.
Which trip would you take and why?

One of the most important influences on my math education career is Cathy Fosnot.
I read and watched her stuff early in my dive into younger grades and it made such an impact. I still quote you Cathy! Thanks for amazing, ground breaking work.

It's time for #MathStratChat!
Rules: post your favorite or a clever solution! It's also fun to comment on other's strategies.

Would you rather is such a great routine to get students debating using math.
For this scenario, is the amount of pay the same?
Either way, which sounds like a better deal?
Bad news: a lot of us are stuck teaching math as if it wasn't math.
Good news: we now know how to fix that.
Look at all the clever strategies for one tiny problem! Way to math, people!

Fall! It's here - still super hot in Austin but hoping it will cool down soon.
Love me some season changing, even if it's only in my house :)

It’s Dig Pink night! Developing Mathematical Reasoning grades 6-8 arrived just in time! Two math teaching parents - what a great family Brianna!
Counting is more than reciting number names.
When students understand the big ideas and strategies behind counting, they can make sense of why counting works—not just repeat the sequence.
Counting is figure-out-able. 🔢

What can Emmy Noether teach us about persistence, mathematical thinking, and figuring things out—even when the odds aren’t in your favor?
Her story is one you won’t want to miss. Read the latest *Figures Who Figured It Out* blog! 👇

Hey, teachers! The Developing Mathematical Reasoning: 6–8 Companion book is here, and I want to tell you all about it!
Join me for a webinar where we’ll celebrate the new book and talk about what it has to offer.

How could you use this to connect multiplication, division, and area?
Students fill in the blanks and discuss as a class.

Shout-out to my son Craig!
Catch this week's podcast episode for a dive into why 'thinking land' is so important and how to keep your students there.

There is a simple litmus test for everything we can do in a classroom.
Will this promote or discourage thinking?
Nice proportional reasoning with percents Erica! Percents are Figureoutable!

I'm in LOVE!
Grandchild number 3 and she is a cutie.
I'm not getting to hold near enough cuz hubby has been sick and we don't want to infect anyone. Come on hubs! Get better ;)

Once students understand the structure of our number system, they can use that understanding to reason about teen numbers, twenties, thirties, and beyond—not just memorize a sequence of names.
