Ok the script might even have been on that God awful South African Rdio show.... ohhh what was it called? It was #TheEleventhHour... what a chore that Brit fellating Radio show was. I'm not even arsed looking through that walkthrough to see if it was indeed so.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #208 "Cover For an Hour" (18-Sep-50).
Again I'm almost certain this was a #RichardDiamond Radio ep I've heard before or maybe a #TheWhistler Radio ep.
As ever scripts that get re-used on other shows do so because they're damn good. And this is.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #207 "The White Elephant" (11-Sep-50).
My fave OTR scenario: old biddy in an old house. Well TBF I prefer if were there two old biddies but this was a great ep.
So the maid was a flirt? Good red herring too that that cousin was seeing her too.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #206 "Second Degree Affection" (04-Sep-50).
A very clever scheme in this. So had Lieutenant Riley taken his gun out and shot George for being way too clever after George's lenthy detailed explanation at the end I wouldn't have been surprised.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #205 "High Card" (28-Aug-50).
Again I love how the reading of the letter at the start is kept in but through very clever storytelling.
A strong ep again and it was interesting why the guy wanted to commit suicide but implicate the other three.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio 204 cont'd.
Bill James (Cupid the Parrot) was a sound engineer.

Was this ep later on #JohnnyDollar sans the parrot? Maybe not?

Millie (Martha Wentworth) reminded me of Meg (Virginia Gregg) in #JohnnyDollar sans Irish accent.

Good ep but needed more motivation for the murder.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #204 "The Treasure of Millie's Wharf" (21-Aug-50).
Add to sub-genre of talking parrot OTR eps but what the parrot said wasn't used at all till the end gag. So an oddly structured ep so why was the parrot even there other than its bullet scar?

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #203 "The High Price of A Penny" (14-Aug-50).
This becomes a #JohnnyDollar ep years later but in the shorter run time it will get cut down somewhat.
Was the law change a recent thing ie the story predated the law change but they had to mention it?

I thought those pills would play into the story but no.

In a world that inflicts Cruz Beckham on us it's great that 1950 publicity engines worked like today. An imaginery celebrity getting murdered: perfect. Maybe someone could do so for Cruz Beckham. Please do.

@bernardjkd.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 10:58 PM

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #202 "Sweet Are the Uses of Publicity" (07-Aug-50).
So good I pray it wasn't lifted from a prior show. Might be the best ep yet, there's plenty of competition.
Riley arriving at the mid cliffanger and barking out he's got a corpse was marvellous.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #201 "Voice of the Giant" (31-Jul-50).
Mixed.
As there were only two suspects so the resolution went out of its way to make it clear the death wasn't murder. So while commendablee in going against the norm it was an unguessable clumsy resolution.

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio 200 cont'd.
When a radio show gets its formula so perfect that it can tweak it as it wants you know said radio show has reached that perfect grace. And that's where "Let George Do It" is at. Will this high standard that's been present for a fair time TBF last up until 1954?

@bernardjkd.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 5:26 AM

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #200 "The Golden Lizard" (24-Jul-50).
Might be ep #202 but my numbering says #200. TBF nobody back in the day counted eps at all.
This run of eps is perfection and this ep is superb.
So much is packed in withs great thematic fare at work too.

I also got confused and sidetracked about why everyone in the class was female and why it was set over summer? Was that a thing in USA colleges back then? It probably is some relic of history that would've been unnoticed by 1950's listeners.

@bernardjkd.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 5:20 AM

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #199 "Eleven O'Clock" (17-Jul-50).
1950 loves the hypno. At least this adheres to the rules of hypnotism.
As ever I missed all the clues, My excuse is there's not enough world building in these eps so I have to guess the setting somewhat.

Great ep.
Set on the Mexico-USA border where firefighters regularly help each other's country out regardless. An undercover Mexican fire insurance investigator is murdered but left a letter for George.
Would the Mexican cop really have contacted George to come down?

@bernardjkd.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 2:47 AM

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #198 "Island in the Desert" (10-Jul-50).
I like how the set format in the prelude to each ep is now getting tweaked to startle the listener. It's a real sigh they writers are in absolute control of this show right now.
Off to Mexico once again!

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio 197 cont'd.
Was the eagle voice artist used here, Bill James, also employed for the condor in Radio ep #94 "A Close Call" (12-Jul-48)? The latter doesn't credit the voice artist however. But both sounded very similar and were pretty powerfully voiced so I suspect so.

@bernardjkd.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 9:44 PM

#LetGeorgeDoit Radio ep #197 "The Scream of the Eagle" (03-Jul-50).
Another great set up. With a $5M inheritance up for grabs the sole heir is a young woman who supposedly drowned but whose body was never found. So every imposter ever is at it.
I liked the actual eagle.

This run is on fire and has great re-listenability for working out if the motiviations line up.

I love how bad tempered Riley is. So much so I wonder if Wally Maher was also tempermentally sick!

My one flaw was the foley of the singing still a thing post-death.
