Banned Books Week used to be fun.
We celebrated it with delight.
Today, the stakes feel very different. The freedom to read should never be taken for granted, and there is no doubt that it has been challenged.

Also, since it's the last weekend of #BannedBookWeek, it would be especially poetic to raise a ton of money to elect a governor who opposes book bans in the state that has banned the most books.

While you’re taking action today on #LetFreedomReadDay, don’t forget to prepare for elections in your community.

My favorite banned books happen to be some of my favorite books of all time. I even got my username from a often-quoted line in one of these books... Can you guess which one? 😊

Take your hands off of books unless you're picking them up to read. You should not pick up books to throw them away or to hide them so that readers can't find them.

Checking out banned books or books about topics that are frequently targeted for censorship proves that the community is interested in reading them. Library staff can use circulation data to support keeping the books on shelves when they are challenged. #LetFreedomReadDay #BannedBooksWeek
