In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady describes the wilderness stripping away civilization as they enter the Stormshield Mountains...

Tonight is our second night acamp in the wilderness, and also likely our last dayfare upon the treepaths. The landheight has grown too high, and the trees too slight to upbear any more. Now, however, we perch astride a limbthwart in sight of Ta-Shestaru’s slope away southward, though its silver peak hides within the sky. To our north runs Father Yaro, though as I had never seen Him. Our campstead overlooks a high narrow cliff race, wheramid a whitewater rush flows with such quickness that none could swim and would be overwashed. A mist floats over the seething flood, behinting unknown wrathfulness.

We have foresightfully brought tents, which we hang from upper boughs to whelm our campstead. They most usefully ward against bugs. Also, I believe I heard a mobat’s wings beat against the gumhide. Likely it had stolen up from the Darkfloor, a wickedness we would not seek, though the shotalashu offdrove it and we swiftly grabbed spears and darts. We keep watch against bigger banes, forwhy it will not do to let our flag fall prey to a mountain eel or a skyfisher, though I believe our sith’s size forestalls any such raid.

I understand no feeling quite like nestling on a hammock against Remaue while Lanaryel sleeps upon her breast and Kaure holds tight from the other side. Within the fire shadows, our harness and city trappings fade, and we could almost be a wild clan, such as had first settled these mountains ere the Warrior-Queens rode. The shota sit watchfully aring and sometimes hoot against things stirring within the nightgloom, as they have done over twenty yearthousands and even older since ere lashunta came to the strath and hunted the wide Retaea. I can dream us such a house, fierce hunting-wives and our manmates, like Ianare’s forebears, seeking a new hometree.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol gets her first assignment since coming home to Son: to seek the elves dwelling in the Stormshield Mountains...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

There we met Lady-Mother, who sat with a crone wearing a bodyshroud of raw silk dyed in odd wise. Lady-Mother named her as Ianare, an elderwife of Noruma, a freehold that lies six dayfares northwestward among the mountains nigh Father-Yaro’s headwaters, as I already knew, for Noruma stands as trademate with the City. Lady-Mother outlaid the elderwife came seeking help on Noruma’s behalf. She had brought word of strife from the mountains. My mother then named me as an outrider and flagmaiden and added I had deedfulness with elves since I had dealt with them not only in Qabarat but twice also had gone to Sovyrian. This last whit I thought awkward, since I knew not what wish a highland freehold might have with elves.

Yet to the elderwife I bowed, greeted fairly, and asked how we may help Noruma. Elder Ianare overlooked me keenly. She asked what I know beyond elves, or whether I am merely a pretty striped face who had played as trucebode. I answered I have seen war, both under the rainwood, on the Darkfloor, and away south against the Formians. This seemingly gladdened her. Lady-Mother outlaid the strife whose word Ianare had brought: the highland clans are upcaught in feud with elves. That word shocked me, since I had last forelooked this thing. While I had heard tales of lost elfclans dwelling along the Stormshield Shore, I had never much believed.

Ianare told the strife had begun yesteryear when Noruma had gotten word from clans further westward of feud with elves. They had sent elders to meet with those clans, had witnessed elf-wrought wounds, and had heard of the threats made against lashunta coming onto elf-claimed land. Ianare feared that, if truce not come soon, open warfare may break out. So her holdwife has sent her, in hope that Son may help overwin all to peace.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol disguises a generous offer as a prank upon Oshis...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

The other thing was laterward when Oshis found me after I came back from the outroom. By then he was quite besotten, which I bewitted from his mind’s slurriness, and which also banned forth his boldness to speak. He bluntly asked whether I begrudged him anything, forwhy he felt I had shunned him. Truthfully, I had shunned, since so I had planned to wrack him somewhat after my bridetide's choice, which had worked in making him feel offshed. I deemed the tide ripe to outspeak the thing.

So I answered I truthfully begrudged him something. I reminded his oath he had sworn back in Qabarat that, after Erymi, he should hold none dearer than me. Then I outspoke I believed him forsaken of this oath. He gaped, wholly forecaught.

By then, through our mindshare, all witted our speech. Those beyond sight neared to watch. I sat queenlike on a stool while Oshis wobbled drunkenly, to afill the show. I then outspoke Oshis had wontfully loved many wives. He waved and withholdingly yaysaid, though he answered he had only done so with Erymi's goodwill. Yet I shook head and said he had done more than mere love. When his brow furrowed, I asked him how many children he had fathered, for by my tally, not only had he Erymi’s and Vosaeth’s, but then Sievae had come with his idle begottenness. I bade him tell whether he had anymore.

Oshis quailed. Then to my shock and glee, he answered there are more. He shrove that when he had grown to ripeness in youth, his mother had fostered him to a friendmate named Avahi as love-mistress to teach him manhood. With his blessing (and many, kenning him) she had borne a child: a daughter named Zheye. I let shock show and claimed astoundedness that any man could so wantonly sow such a long furrow.

While he stammered and tried to build answer, I false-sternely asked whether there was any anyone whomon he had not fathered a child. ~Nile!~ - “Many!” he babbled.

~Ruae real’imya!~ - “Name one!” I yelled.

At the bid’s unbelief, Oshis’s drunken jaw slackened. I hearkened laughter from the others gathered. Chidingly I said I would give a name he had not bechilded, and thereby could only think that he held me in less love. I merrily halted while he dithered.

Then I gave him my name and bade tell why he had not yielded me a child. I wish I could bewrite his face while his drink-sodden brain tried to mill my words while all aring laughter outbroke, followed by cheering buzzes. Yet it was too dear. Kindly Erymi laid hand on her manmate’s shoulder and whispered that he should understand the boon I bestowed, and that he should rightly yield worship.

Tears ran down our short korasha’s cheeks. Slightly he knelt at my knees and asked what thewdom I would have. I answered he already knew, that I was ready to become a wife, that he should be my First Man, and also that I would have his child if the gods so bless. I asked him to yield me this blessing.

To much buzz and cheer, he leaned forward and kissed my belly. Then Erymi stepped in and asked that, until my bridetide, she should have her manmate to upmake for their ols tide shed while the Formian warfare. Happily I yaysaid. Remaue spoke this tide was late forecome, forwhy she had wearied of me bemoaning maidenhood. Kaure hugged me in cheer, though she gave a queer look, and her mind ever reads murkily when it comes to men and wifehood. Though she understands, she fears for my sake.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol loses another blithe preconception when she and Remaue discuss what happened to Kaure, their korasha maidenlove...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

Erenow, Remaue and I spoke. She wished to speak of Kaure, for she worries for her. She asked whether I witted the dark dread linked in Kaure’s dreams and idleness. I yaysaid. Remaue then asked whether I understood the dread’s root. I thought back to my shared mindwhit with Kaure on our first day: the three fell men with blood on their knuckles. Yet my heart forsook, and cravenly answered I was unsure.

Remaue sat on my lap, hugged my shoulders, and nuzzled my head into her swollen bosom. She reckoned what to speak next while she toyed with my hair. Sighingly she said that Kaure is no maiden. Yet neither is she upraised to wife. Remaue deemed a fell sin had misbefallen our maidenlove. Yet I shrive that, against all the clues, my mind missed thought. Shamefully, I did not wish to believe, forwhy the thought made no good wit. How could a man so overcome a wife?

Remaue read my befuddleness. She kissed and named me her blithe beauty. Then she told things are never quite so neat and fair among the hinterland farmholds as Wellborn like me believe. She then told a tale that, in a farmhold neighhboring her kindred’s, a maiden had gotten bechild ere firdhood. It outcame an older korasha, a man much misliked and beyond the neighborwives' goodwill, had behooved his years and strength to slake his lust. The man was afterward banned, and the erstwhile maiden upyielded the child after birth, and then had left altogether after shame that a korasha had so overborne and mishandled her.

In the beginning of _A Castrovel Adventure: Part 3_, Lady Vaeol witnesses her maidenlove Kaure bond with her own shotalashu...

#pathfinder #pathfinder2e #lashunta #castrovel #rpg #ttrpg #worldbuilding #worldanvil

Then Oshis, as yesterday forespoken, asked Kaure to follow him to the Shota-field. We all riders witted this will and followed to watch.

Oshis led the way to the meadow, where the Shota meanly gather to glean fodder and scraps we put out for their welfare. He then bade Kaure stand in the pack’s midst. She went slowly, easily so to not startle them. We watched their boxy, scaled snouts swerve to smell and see her. A few younglings gamboled near. Yet she unheeded.

Bywardly an older Shota sidled near: a big queen who bore scars on her hide and had doubtlessly borne many egg-clutches. Also likely, she had bonded and carried a rider ereward, maybe even at warfare. She neared Kaure with a trustiness that bespoke she knew Lashunta and had a good math already of Kaure’s self. In answer, Kaure knelt and forth held her hand. The big queen upcame and snuffled her fingers, doubtlessly seeking a snack. Kare sat forbearingly and slowly drew her near, until her antennae could reach forth and touch the fine scale-ridges along the Shota’s brow, which thew the same purpose.

We others stood softly for the tide, lest we do anything that might break the bond. Yet we beheld good token when Kaure reached arm about the Shota’s neck and softly hugged her. The steed’s mouth opened and let forth her great tongue, which slathered Kaure’s face. Kaure stood and stroked and scratched the Shota’s hide, who stood and stretched gladly underneath. Hand on the beast’s shoulder, Kaure walked together to us. She gave her steed’s name as Vali, which we thought well. Then she hastened back to the Flaghold, for she said Vali was mightily wantsome of roast meat. Laughingly we followed back and readied for the City.
