That's very kind, and--I'm sure I speak for all children's book illustrators on this--very much appreciated. :-)

This was fun, as usual.

As usual, I'm all fired up about writing again. Maybe it's time to write my Dragonlance-inspired epic fantasy. #kidlitchat

Plus one of the boys was blown away that I was an author. He kept saying, "But, you like made stuff....out of your brain." #kidlitchat

Yep. That's why I tell my authors when we shelve a book because it wasn't the right time for it that, if the market ever shifts back in its favor, I will be pulling it out of cold storage so fast . . . Nothing ever dies, it's just waiting for its moment. #kidlitchat

That's what I would want someone to do for me, so here I am! 💥 #KidLitChat

I've been working my way through the Drizzt books. I sort of lost them along the way and picked them up a few years back. I'm on Spine of the World. I forgot how good thay are. Salvatore is really fun! #kidlitchat

Same. I have a couple stories from a few years ago that I thought were too short, but the market changed in my favor. #kidlitchat

It just keeps coming up for you, because it's super important to you. And I totally get that. BTW, my sister read the DL books growing up and I read the Forgotten Realms, lol. No idea why I didn't also read DL except I thought of them as 'hers'. #KidLitChat

I think of my son. He's a reluctant reader but he wants to read and so do his friends. For his birthday earlier this year I had half a dozen 12-13 yo boys having a literal book chat about The Outsiders at my kitchen table. The MG author and English teacher in me was estatic. #kidlitchat

Now is absolutely the time to shine for shorter MG. #kidlitchat

And thank you for sharing! #kidlitchat

This is heartening to me, because my MG mss tend to be shorter. Around 30k. :) #KidLitChat

Agree and it’s a shame for kids in that age group, (and more selfishly, me, as an author who has a project that falls in that gap) #kidlitchat

I will add the caveat (as always) that there are exceptions to everything, and things in publishing shift so quickly. I try to share insights to what the current market is doing in case it helps someone, but don't ever let it stop anyone from writing the story of their heart. #kidlitchat

I know, I'm such a broken record. I should just do it. #kidlitchat

Yeah, you'll have a better chance of success with it under 45k words. That sounds brutal, but I keep hearing that number from pubs. Or at least under 50k. The MG I sold last year, the author had cut it to 48k and that's one thing that made it appealing to the publisher who acquired it. #kidlitchat
