James Lawless says unis have to come together and submit their visa requests for Palestinian students in one go, to be "consistent".

He says it's not to make Jim O'Callaghan happy, even though that's never been a submission requirement before.

These people are moral vaccums.

Apparently AI now is just like when Microsoft Office came out according to James Lawless.

"The smarter the machine become, the more human we must be" 🤮

Now he's saying that teaching in foreign counties is easier to grow & doesn't require students to come to Ireland.

Again, handy he wants to do that so gov won't have to fund it.

If I was a university president I'd be throwing my radio out the window right now.

James Lawless saying that he is going to commission a piece of work to see exactly how much unis are underfunded by & will take it to gov as a paper.

Handy he wants to do it now after the budget

Useless

What is the point of Ifac if the Coalition just ignores its warnings?

Seconded.

This is what Micheál Martin means when he talks about Ireland's Enterprise economy, when it's actually just naked neoliberalism.

#IrishPol

Despite irrefutable evidence of the scale of the Climate Emergency now, I can't help but think that Micheál Martin doesn't take it seriously because he's still sore that the Greens got it through on an amendment without a vote in 2019 because there was no FF TD in the chamber.

"But there is a world of difference between personal responsibility & political accountability."

I guffawed last wk hearing about Ireland's 2nd red light camera.

They are everywhere in the UK & it's fine.

Cars are the biggest killer but here's the Min doing a Pontius Pilate, as usual.

Excellent piece

"Bluntly speaking, any future Irish government, of any composition, will be in a position to send any number of young Irish men & women to any conflict anywhere in the world by simple government majority"

Would you trust Jim O'Callaghan to not send Irish kids into a war?

You know the way we all half look back on the celtic tiger as "we all partied" rather than the total mismgmt of the economy that relied on a hot running sector?

I wonder how we will look back on this period where there's more money than the State has ever had & FFG have done nothing.

On last week's (pre-budget) State of Affairs podcast, Ivan Yates' advice for the EU was to scrap carbon tax completely until the fuel crisis is over, what he calls going Back To Basics™.

I guess that first order thinking is why he was paid the big bucks to advise Jim Gavin.

Thinking more about MM's "Dial it down" comment, I hope public sector workers on Molesworth St are as loud as possible next Wed.

I hope the rest of the public realise that the strike is for their benefit too & groan at the gov rather than at the disruption.

The third level education sector has a €240m funding shortfall
(they got €10m in #Budget27).

FFG & its alumni are happy to give a €200m tax cut to the rich via a reduction in CGT rather than fully funding the education the next generation.

€10m for universities,
€20m for greyhounds.

That's a no then.

I may have missed it, but I didn't hear anything in #Budget27 about storm preparedness, food security, or emergency planning.

They don't matter I suppose 🙃
