I was born into a world
that taught me fear,
before I even knew
what fear was doing here.

They taught me how to smile,
how to behave,
then taught me all the ways
I’d need to be brave.

“Human Condition-ing”

We read of hearts
that break and bleed,
of lonely souls
in desperate need.
We turn the page,
we sigh, we care…
their sorrow safe
within our chair.

“Let Me Love It Honestly”

Let me criticize the thing I love
without making me its enemy.

Let me say
this part was beautiful,
and this part was hollow,
and still mean
I stayed until the credits rolled.
