Shin KoiKoi, stated plainly: one rule set (Koi-Koi). Single-player, offline, free, no ads. 184 unit tests. Online play isn't in yet. Writing down what you cut is the cheapest way not to overpromise.

Built a voice synth for Shin KoiKoi that confidently read 明智日向守 as ‘Mamoru’ — a given name. The historical reading is ‘no kami’. The model was fine; we hadn’t checked its reading list. Caught by inspecting /audio_query’s accent_phrases output. #godot #gamedev #hanafuda

The game is named after its riskiest moment. You've just scored a yaku in Shin KoiKoi. You could stop and bank the points — or say 'koi koi': keep playing, bet it all. If your opponent scores first, you forfeit double. That one call gave the game its name.

Shin KoiKoi runs on Godot — the engine with a strict no-AI code policy. Hand-painted cards, rooted in Edo-period hanafuda. The engine enforces it from above; the artist chose it from within. The rules predate language models by centuries. #godot #hanafuda #indiedev

I recently heard back and turns out that I'll be showing off Yaku Slap at Oak City Indie Games on Oct 24th.

I have been working hard on polishing things up a creating better onboarding for learning koi koi.

People ask what game Shin KoiKoi's scoring borrows from. The yaku — Gokou, Sanko, Aka-tan, Ao-tan, Tane-zaku — come from Edo-period hanafuda rules. Nothing in modern games uses them because they predate modern games.
