At first I wondered how realistic such a simulation might be. Watching what is happening in the #ai realm you realize it might not be far off.
Of course the obvious alternative is to start reducing #carbon #emissions

@fediboard-science.bsky.socialSolar geoengineering simulation shows what happens when geopolitics takes over.
@futuroprossimo.bsky.socialA London war-game on solar geoengineering put officers and diplomats in charge of the planet's thermostat, and the rainfall-model laptop stayed off.

@fediboard-science.bsky.socialSolar geoengineering could buy humanity time against climate change - or trigger a dangerous new arms race. A first-of-its-kind simulation offered a glimpse of what happens when geopolitics takes the…

@redjont.bsky.socialWhat could possibly go wrong with dimming the sun? A geoengineering war game found an arms race, ignored scientists and no agreement on safeguards. Cooling the planet is one problem. Deciding who controls it & who bears the risks, is another.
@obialik.bsky.socialFor clarification, this is not a serious idea for #geoengineering, but for some #worldbuilding for a sci-fi setting. IRL, this would be ridiculously energy-intensive and would do a major number on regional climate.
@drerrapel.bsky.socialLearn about what coastal blue carbon is, and why it matters for tackling climate change!

@activist360.bsky.socialGlobal ocean dumping treaties expanded rules in London today restricting marine geoengineering schemes (like ocean fertilization). Civil society warned against commercial carbon offset firms rebranding chemical ocean dumping as climate action.
@geoengmon.bsky.socialNew GeoMon #geoengineering tech update, covering industrial algae & seaweed cultivation for carbon capture, use and storage #CCUS, a range of approaches aiming to sequester carbon by manufacturing products from farmed algae. But don't believe the hype!
@vincetinguely.bsky.social“Technological solutions are often politically attractive because they promise to address climate change without requiring changes to how people live and consume.”

@andyscollick.bsky.socialI say again, any #geoengineering 'solution' to #ClimateChange and specific impacts only works if it is carried out at large-scale and sustained over decades and centuries.
That is NOT realistic given the geopolitical trends towards greater competition, conflict and collapse. #IPCC #COP31
@andyscollick.bsky.socialWell done Johann Wadephul, Germany's Foreign Minister, for highlighting the risk to peace and security of solar radiation management (SRM). 👏 #geoengineering
@timbadrick.bsky.socialIt's about time that ALL OF US, inc. @australia.theguardian.com journos, re: "climate change", started asking ourselves a few questions about the great possibility that "intentional malicious #geoengineering" is responsible for #ElNino, heatwaves & all the other crazy weather we're now experiencing.
@pnas.orgA simple #geoengineering approach seems to restore dwindling #Arctic #ice in pilot studies. Could it actually work at a larger scale? In PNAS Front Matter: https://ow.ly/iwt550ZU1wh
