@socialbc.cait is easy to forget how spoiled we are by the sheer speed of everything compared to 15-20 years ago.
loading that El Capitan install took a bit from USB but it got there. Now... it's time to do some work while the install happens.

@socialbc.caThe iMac did not see the USB stick, but I am not convinced the stick is actually a valid bootable install as I was building it using dd on a new machine. I will bring it to work and use target disk mode to try to get things moved onto an old iMac there as an interim. #footiMac

It appears somewhere down the line Linux updated Grub to a point where it made it impossible to get back to the rEFInd tool that enabled Linux on the old iMac.

@socialbc.caWell this is a problem… #footiMac won’t boot. It is trying to run fsck on disk before booting but seems to time out after only about 25% and the screen goes blank, requiring a restart which just does the same.
