Tricks in “Love Abides”: The whole story hinges on classic siren trickery, using their song to lure ships onto the reefs off Mont Saumon.

As a Watcher, Arlise is immune to their influence, which goes a long way towards leveling the field.

15. Seff, Drohim, and Rhugada throw off pursuers by leaving an arrow tainted with the musk of a notoriously nasty predator. The enemy horses won't get near it, and when one guy picks it up, his horse won't even let him get close enough to mount up again.

11. Seff's tombstone would say, "Some of you had better pray that she stays here. In fact, why not come over here and check to make sure?"
People in her world have become vengeful revenants for less reason that she would.

Day 8

Everett likes to carry himself as a fearless person, but there are still a few things that are so deeply connected to his psyche that he has not been able to shake them.

He has a severe fear of being hanged, and cannot handle any tight sensation around his neck. 🧵

There's actually a few tricks in The Lowborn King. In fact, most of the story involves Gino outsmarting the Senate through some rather clever tricks from him and his new partner-in-crime Lunwar. And a fair amount of stupidity from the Senate...

Day 15 of #FantasyIndiesSpooktober

I don't really have too many "tricks" in my Oracle of Delphi series WIP. At least, not the first draft. I may add something in revision.

15: Tricks in WIP

Well, the book features a dueling tournament. There's a lot of feinting. Does that count? 👀

There's also a political trick at the very end

15. Tricks

Ratatoskr shares the art of the 'Quip and Run' with the Reds. The twins Cama and Miada take to it like naturals and lure several Greys away from the biggest larder in the park with scathing insults, so that their fellows can ambush them.
"Big nose!"
"Tiny teeth!"

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober Day 15: Tricks in WIP. The main villain of This Dark Road: Freed is using his powers to turn an innocent person into a spy, and the good guys are discovering the trick almost too late (possibly too late to save the spy). #WritingCommunity

Currently, the only character with tricks is Shan, a trickster god who was at least partly responsible for bringing Brian to Eos two books ago.

Whoops, just realized I forgot yesterday's post. My favorite paranormal creatures? It's a kind of boring answer, but probably vampires.

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober Day 15:

By the dictionary definition of “trick”:
1. Deception or prank - there’s plenty of deception
2. Clever skill or knack - sword skills?
3. Illusion or performance - no
4. Slang - one of the main characters in “A Song of Vengeance” is a courtesan…

Bryce is encountering quite a few tricky patients in Dragon Flame. Miniature unicorns who want to stealthily eat all her herbivore snack mix? Possibly cursed rabbits? All in a day's work for this small town vet... 🐇🦄

Well one of my MCs is named Trick and he certainly lives up to his name as an exceptionally powerful and competent illusionist!

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober day 15: Tricks in WIP

This WIP sees one character fabricating stories to protect someone from the hard truth, and another not directly lying but withholding the truth until it's too late for anyone to stop what they're doing.
Vague, I know, lol

A large part of Bonnie's supervillain identity as Bun Voyage is themed after a stage magician, so she's very tricksy.

Tricks

While Zel complains that Mel is a "killjoy" for not letting him pickpocket, he does play a few tricks in Rites of Departure.

He moves Tagrin's tools. He rearranges the cutlery after it's set out at a fancy inn to mess with the staff since they can't see him...

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober 15: Tricks in WIP

Tricks in my WIP are spoilers, so I won't reveal those. For fun, here's a scene involving one of Dorilian's tricks. Over the course of the series, he manages quite a few. This is the aftermath of his best one.

Left side of image is the book cover of THE WALLED CITY, fifth book of the Triempery Revelations series by L.L. Stephens. Cover is silver and blue and shows a man standing with sword in hand, facing a distant fantasy city guarded by magic.

Right side is a text excerpt from THE WALLED CITY, showing that man and hinting at events impacting that city:

The amount of Rill power Dorilian had summoned, and used, rivaled that of the Debens. Had he not prepared himself so well in advance, weakened the Wall ahead of time.... He dropped to his knees, his head resting against his grip on the sword.
Are you happy now with what I’ve done? he silently asked of the Entity he had just crippled. Nammuor will have to flee now. He knows you’re merely wounded and, because of that, he will not choose to face me here.
As the wind whipped cold around them, Tutto dismounted, spread the royal Eagle cloak he had carried with him, and threw it around his kneeling liege. Dorilian gave a grateful glance.
       “My thanks, Tutto.”
Tutto grunted. He unhooked the large bag he’d carried behind his saddle. “I thought I’d seen all your pretty tricks!” he snapped. “But where did that come from?”

Day 7

I have always preferred to write things in third person, and will usually use an omniscient narrator, because I like to get into all the characters heads.

Sometimes I like to play with first person, with switching narratives, but usually I stick to third person.
