I am curious how much of this regional warmth is linked to atmospheric circulation including winds, and ocean currents, versus long term Arctic ice melting amplifications due to the feedback loop, and how it compares with the change in Kara Sea ice. The persistance of this is terrifying! #ENVSCOMM26

I love the idea of “daylighting” zombie rivers! I think a river people can actually see and experience in their city will be cared for much more than one they can’t. I’m curious how projects like this handle long-term pollution and stormwater runoff so it doesn’t undo their progress. #ENVSCOMM26

It’s wild that this year’s El Niño could beat anything in the last 1,000 years. I found it interesting that tree rings and corals both point the same way. I am curious how uncertainty in older records could shrink that gap.

Its encouraging to see Indigenous Tribes taking an active role in restoring native species and protecting ecosystems. Even though reintroduction takes time these efforts are so important towards rebuilding biodiversity. Hopefully monitoring will help the project succeed!

Excellent thread of movies about climate change, with fiction reflecting its themes, causes, & consequences: pertinent to my #ENVSCOMM26 students as they develop their personal environmental-science stories.

I love this project! I've never heard of a "zombie river," but it's interesting to learn how industrial development destroys natural landscapes this way. Restoring this habitat is important to prevent further climate change damage. I wonder how many I have walked on without realizing it. #ENVSCOMM26

The resort-to-research funding model is the part that stuck with me. Tourism money keeping 9 years of data going instead of chasing grant cycles is huge for the Western Indian Ocean. Curious how they will keep it independent if the data ever backs blue bonds or credits, though. #ENVSCOMM26

It is unbelievable that this is the second warmest year on record for land + ocean. I just experienced very heavy rainfall and strong wind in Philly while trying to explore the city. I couldn't even use an umbrella because of the wind. Climate change is making extreme events more severe. #ENVSCOMM26

In my #ENVSCOMM26 class today, we'll talk about the legacy of Rachel Carson as a scientist & writer who changed the world for the better through her writing. If you don't know much about her & would like to learn more, read here: www.rachelcarson.org

This example of connection through community is inspiring, and shows our capability when we work together towards solving environmental issues. I think it is also important to note how this positive environmental change resulted in positive economic and sustainable change!

The positive feedback loops that accelerate permafrost melting, planetary albedo changes being one of them, are some of several contributors. Not to mention that methane release from melting permafrost also happens to be a positive feedback loop accelerating global warming.

In my #ENVSCOMM26 class today, peer editing exercises! For this, I anonymize students' essay drafts, print them, & give these & pens to the students so they can edit for format & content. After discussing their experience with a partner ("pair & share"), they'll try to find the original author. Fun!

For my #ENVSCOMM26 students, new information from @yaleclimatecomm.bsky.social on about how climate change has been mentioned less in the media over the past 2 years, even as its visible effects worsened. #scicomm

@ichnologist.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 3:02 PM

Interesting new study on climate-change communicators, pertinent for my #ENVSCOMM26 students as we discuss ways to reach more people when talking about climate change. #scicomm

Terrific example of #scicomm for my #ENVSCOMM26 students to watch & learn, about the Billion Oyster Project in NYC, which aims to replenish oyster reef there for all of the good reason. Also thematically apt for #MolluscMonday! 🧪🦪

In my #ENVSCOMM26 class today, in-class writing on prompt explaining what Dr. @katharinehayhoe.com means by the "moral necessity" of using renewable energy & greater energy efficiency instead of fossil fuels. Then on to Chapters 18-20 of 'Saving Us:' Why You Matter, What I Do, Why Talking Matters.

@ichnologist.bsky.socialSep 27, 2026, 6:33 PM

Important point for my #ENVSCOMM26 students to know, that domestic water for drinking, cleaning, cooking, etc. can be limited by a large number of factors, even in places with supposedly ample supplies. Data centers add yet another stressor. How to best explain this problem to others?

I traveled with my family to Hawaii where we hiked Mauna Kea at sunset. At the summit, we experienced a breathtaking view of the night sky. Unobstructed from light pollution, we could see the entire Milky Way. This world without human interference led me to environmental sciences. #ENVSCOMM26

@ayo-s1.bsky.socialSep 26, 2026, 2:31 AM

This summer I had the amazing opportunity to travel to The Gambia. I was blessed to experience the environment routinely from my daily walks, to seeing colorful lizards that I don’t see in the U.S., to seeing very large insects and the beach quite frequently! It was incredibly tranquil.

The concern for the next generation not being able to enjoy the winters as I did lead me to minor in Environmental Science and try to make the world better than I found it.
