The waxing Moon, now more than half lit, briefly peers out from behind grey clouds in a light blue eventide sky above the village pub, which is fully lit and welcoming behind the old Oak tree. Goodnight Bluesky friends.

The waxing Moon, at around 60% illuminated and a week from being full, appears briefly from behind grey scudding clouds in a light blue evening sky above the whitewashed village pub, which is lit and welcoming beyond the leafy branches of an ancient Oak tree that stands in the meadow from where the photo has been taken. The pub sign is visible to the extreme right of the tree's thick trunk. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro.

A church with a tower to the right is viewed through the leafy branches of a tree. To the right of frame, beyond a grassed car parking area, a couple sit on a bench in a garden of remembrance, facing floral tributes to the dead. Once this was a graveyard but, like many English churchyards, space ran out and a decision was taken to remove the stone monuments. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro.

Some English villages have simple houses that are like small works of art. Who am I kidding, they all do. They are like galleries. This in a Surrey village a few miles from my home.

A brick built cottage on the end of a terrace in a lane by the church in a Surrey Hills village. Autumn garland on the door and steps decorated with flowers in pots. Next to the steps, several containers, mostly empty, ranging from old zinc bathtubs to buckets for planting. The tile-hung second story rises to a pointed roof. Three small windows are situated centrally. More windows next to the front door. All painted grey. The roof is red tiled and a chimney stack rises into a blue sky with mottled white clouds. Another day of sunshine and temperatures around 21°C ends in a dazzling sunset of fiery orange coloured clouds that turn to grey and then faint blue. Tomorrow it will rain. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro

The last house in the lane leading to the millpond looks out over fields. It faces south and catches the evening sun deliciously as the shadows from trees fall across the front. Friends live there and often invite me in for coffee.

An old detached house, its walls painted white and sash windows from a previous era, stands half in the shadow cast by trees in the evening light. The tiled roof is a faded red and a single brick chimney stack rises to the right. Camera: Canon EOS 400D digital Tamron 55-200mm lens

The end of a perfect late Summer day as an autumnal chill creeps in alongside the clear blue skies and waxing Moon. The village pub looks tempting behind the Oak but I'm away to bed. Goodnight all. Sleep tight.

Clockwise from main image: the waxing Moon, at 69% illumination and six days from fullness, seen by trees in the meadow; a twisted Oak on the west side of the meadow silhouetted against the buttery sky just after sunset; our village pub, a white-painted building, seen through the branches of a large Oak tree that stands by the gate at the entrance to the field, is illuminated with too many electric lights while the Moon struggles to compete.
