@dnlee5.bsky.social is a Mammalogy Professor. She & her students use motion-activated game cameras to study small mammals, which normally can’t be detected by these cameras. They make pass-through arenas from buckets, pointing the lens down to capture images & videos of field mice. #BMW2026Innovate

🐘 💡 Trust, treats, and a whistle! I’m Alexis Jones, a mammal keeper at Zoo Atlanta. I use a whistle to mark successful behaviors during positive reinforcement training, helping elephants and meerkats voluntarily participate in daily care and health exams. #BMW2026Innovate #BlackMammalogists 🧪 🌍️

Traditional mobile telemetry systems require vehicle modifications. Dr. Tommy Parker developed a rooftop Detachable Mobile and Adjustable Telemetry System that allows antenna control from inside the vehicle without permanent modifications—ideal for shared research vehicles! #BMW2026Innovate 🧪 🐾

💡 Next up for #BMW2026Innovate: In this @americanscientist.org article, @amanatiala.bsky.social explores how scientists are using eDNA- collected from air, water, fur, & even bloodsucking leeches - to detect elusive wildlife without disturbing them! 🧪 🌍️

Corina Newsome, an avian ecologist at @nwf.org, used a modified Hunt Trap to monitor mammalian predator activity & diversity in salt marshes. She faced cameras toward the ground, elevated them on PVC to avoid high tides, & used fish scents to draw mammals in. #BMW2026Innovate #BlackMammalogists🧪
