Early 20th century motor horn. This would have been fixed to the outside of the car. It was an essential at a time when cars were still rare. #Bexhill

The horn is brass and trumpet like at the end where the sound comes out (right of photo). The other end is a dark coloured bulb that you squeeze to produce the sound.

This chair was used by Air Chief-Marshall Sir Hugh Dowding. During WW1 he served in the Royal Flying Corps. During WW2 he was Commander-in-Chief at Fighter Command. It is on display in our Sargent Gallery.

The chair is low slung and is covered in a green fabric with yellow and grey flowers on it. It has curved wooden arm rests and sides. This is the description label about the chair. “Without his (Dowding’s) vision, planning, his singleness of purpose and his complete disregard for personal aggrandisement, Fighter Command might have been unable to win the Battle of Britain.”

Toby jugs of Wellington and Napoleon. (Not currently on display.) The two were on opposing sides in the Battle of Waterloo on Sunday June 18th 1815.

The owl is white plastic with a black face and a green ‘mask’ around his eyes and a small yellow beak. It says Hootbot on his tummy. There are two black claws on each leg.
