Hello from ESAC!

Ship 40 🚀, after surviving an orbital velocity re-entry, days at sea, and travel on a semi-submersible for months back to launch site, has finally been returned in the vertical position inside Megabay 2. Alongside its sister upper stages.

I had an absolutely fantastic time talking about colliding exoplanets as part of Pints of Knowledge at Big Penny Social in Walthamstow, and spent over half an hour answering many excellent questions from the audience! #exoplanets #astrodon #outreach

Harvesting Betelgeuse and Antares for lunch...

Walking through work is currently very fun.

Wondering if little nodules of dark matter lurk at the centre of asteroids and that's what made all that stuff coalesce in the first place when Sol System was forming...

In my mind, these three lounge tomatoes are like three mighty giant stars at different stages of development.
The smallest 'mato is the youngest, like blue giant Rigel.
The medium sized orange giant in the foreground like Antares, and behind it is angry red Betelgeuse

And sometimes you see someone present a draft in a collab meeting and know that the paper will be soooo impactful 🤩 Sooo exciting!

A week into the new fiscal year, and my research group is still averaging more than one submitted proposal per day (PI-ed in my group). Not something we will be able to sustain, mind you, but it's fun while it is lasting!

oooo, magnetic exoplanets!

More likely to hold onto atmospheres, like our Earth does....

Exoplanets bring us joy!

Depiction of the reusable CZ-9 booster (10.6 meter diameter) coming in for a landing. Just one of THREE Chinese Starship knockoffs.
CZ-9 and CZ-9B (fully reusable) are powered by dozens of YF-215 FFSC methalox engines. Similar to Raptor 3.
