Every 40 wall bounces, and every 20 gold-brick hits, live balls are remapped through a 16-byte table, which changes the trajectory of the ball. That is why a “stuck” near-vertical rally eventually changes heading. #Arkanoid #MSX

Ball speed in #Arkanoid ramps up slightly as you play. Rounds 1–16 all use the same speed (0C); 17 through Doh all use 0D. Later rounds feel harder because of layout, silver bricks' increased durability, and the enemies, not a continuous speed curve. #MSX

#Arkanoid contains 2 sets of sprites for fodder-type enemies - the kind that enter from the top. The second set appears near the destruction sprites and while identical to the first, goes completely unused. #MSX

Hitpoints for the silver bricks in #Arkanoid depend on the stage (round) number - namely, (round / 8 + 2): 2 hits on rounds 1-8; up to 5 by the time you reach round 33 (Doh) #MSX

#Arkanoid demo is mostly regular gameplay with a one-line AI: Vaus X = ball X − 16, so the paddle stays centered under first ball. Collisions, power-ups still active; ball on auto-release (Catch never holds); Laser auto-fires; additional balls ignored. No BGM, no, scoring, but HUD still drawn. #MSX

Even though #Arkanoid is an #MSX game, and contains the correct prompt to start the game - "PUSH SPACE KEY", the actual prompt it displays is more arcade or console - "PUSH START BUTTON". While the game originally came with a controller, it has no button labeled START - neither does the MSX itself.

What would happen in #Arkanoid in Round 32 if Vaus could be equipped with a laser? Nothing useful - laser shots pass right though Doh, since the game only checks the ball for contact. #MSX

Arming Vaus with laser was originally supposed to speed up the ball. Serving a shot still calls laser_kick, but that routine immediately returns. The unused instructions right after it would have bumped ball speed every eight shots, capped at 15. #Arkanoid #MSX

Bricks in #Arkanoid can have one of the following characteristics: pop (basic bricks), cap (with capsule), hard (multi-hit, silver), gold (unbreakable). Because color and kind are stored separately, one could have unbreakable red bricks or breakable gold, but that never happens in the game.
