Now APOPO’s teams are working near his home to make the land safe.

Nisa is an #APOPO rat handlers in #Cambodia, helping return safe land to her community. 🇰🇭

These African giant pouched rats are too light to set off #landmines on a real minefield and are very good at finding them with their incredible sense of smell.

At 4 weeks rat pups start to open their eyes and begin their #socialization & #habituation. We take them outside, gently introduce them to new sights and sounds that adapt them to humans.

All 8 of #APOPO Angola's mine detection rats passed national accreditation and are cleared to work on minefields again. Two #ANAM officials seeing them for the first time, were impressed by how fast they search compared with manual deminers.

Did you know that rats can learn to drive?

Scientists have taught them to steer tiny cars for a snack. Ours are still on passenger duty, but they are getting real comfortable on a car.

Rats are much smarter and more playful than they get credit for.

What if a rat could show you what it sees?

#HeroRATs are already great at detecting landmines, TB, trafficked wildlife & more. Now specially designed backpacks could make them even more powerful. Engineer Sander has spent years working on ratpacks: https://bit.ly/4y2iJyG
