"None of this is broken; it’s working exactly as intended

The violence against people in poverty is everywhere; it is constant, it is systemic and crafting a pitiful image of destitution to mark Anti-Poverty Week is not going to save anyone’s life"

One in six Australian children live in poverty.
Major parties who do nothing about this - except make it worse - can not pretend to support 'social cohesion'. #AntiPovertyWeek #EndChildPoverty #RaiseTheRate #inequality #auspol

#AntiPovertyWeek is a reminder that we can all play a part in ending poverty. Our Centre research examines how disadvantage develops, persists & can continue across generations. Find out more about #APW26 - antipovertyweek.org.au

The Aus Gov has the means to tackle poverty. They can fix welfare payments, target full employment and better fund social housing. These steps would go a long way to reducing poverty for the 3.7 million living below the poverty line. It’s all about priorities. #antipovertyweek

What Jim R said. 👇

One in six kids live in poverty,
people experiencing poverty are more likelty to die early, and
this could easily be fixed.

But in #AntiPovertyWeek, the govt won't #RaiseTheRate because the political & media class prefers to obsess about tax loopholes for the wealthy. #auspol

Canberra journos frothing about Albo & Chalmers' petty power struggles.

No mention of how it's taken for granted that Anthony "No-one left behind" Albanese has an open door for a business lobby.

But has condemned 1 in 6 kids to poverty, and hasn't met with advocates in #AntiPovertyWeek. #auspol

we have no money and nothing else to show for it but still being alive every fortnight because it all goes to just having a roof over our head and just enough to eat to get by

"Albanese took the credit...telling business leaders that he intervened after a text message from ACCI boss Andrew McKellar"

In #AntiPovertyWeek, if only any of the one in seven struggling households could text the PM and get similar quick action to #RaiseTheRate. #inequality #auspol

Thank you to QCOSS, Mission Australia and Anglicare Southern Queensland for bringing so many of us together for this important conversation during Anti-Poverty Week.

Working together, it is possible to build a Queensland where every child and family can thrive.

"governments, including this one, continue to impose strict conditions policing the ways people can get support and what people must do to get that support." @annachang.bsky.social

In #AntiPovertyWeek, it's clear that Labor and the Coalition remain staunchly and shamelessly pro-poverty. #auspol

Charities represent government policy failure.

Plibersek's insulting tokenism represents cruel hypocrisy.
Her government's welfare system is killing people.

#AntipovertyWeek foodbank queuing

A woman with fair skin, green eyes, and shoulder-length dark brown hair takes a selfie while looking at the camera with a slight smile. She wears cat-eye glasses with black and pink frames, a purple short-sleeve t-shirt with white text reading "break the poverty machine" and "@antipovertycent" printed below, a thin silver chain necklace, and patterned pants. A beige bag strap crosses her right shoulder and a dark green bag handle is held in her left hand. She stands on a concrete surface in a parking garage, with a white car partially visible in the background to the upper left, yellow parking lines on the asphalt, and a metal pole near the car. The image is taken from a high angle, showing her upper body and part of the garage environment.

Your regular reminder that #poverty, #homelessness and food insecurity are failures of government policy.

The Albanese govt has made the choice to not #RaiseTheRate, and to keep one in six kids in poverty. #AntiPovertyWeek #EndChildPoverty #inequality #auspol

Mallee Family Centre have a depressing interactive make choices on what you'll pay for when your incomings barely pay the rent. If you don't already have to do this every day, give it a go this #AntiPovertyWeek

INTERACTIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

The Cost of Poverty: Impossible Choices
By doing this interactive learning experience you will learn about the realities and experiences of people living in poverty. The aim is to raise awareness and compassion while reducing stigma and judgment. As you move through the scenarios, try to approach each person’s decisions with curiosity and empathy rather than judging what they “should” do. Their choices are shaped by the resources, pressures and options available to them, and sometimes every available option carries a cost.

Exploring poverty in the Mallee and across Australia

Every day, people make decisions about food, housing, healthcare, transport and bills.

For many people experiencing poverty, these decisions are not about wants or luxuries. They are about choosing which essential need must come first.

In this experience, you will step into the lives of three people living in the Mallee region. You will make decisions based on their circumstances, resources and challenges.

There are no perfect choices.
Every decision has a consequence, and a choice that solves one problem may create another.

Sunday
Happy #AntiPovertyWeek?
Quiet sundayish day ahead to be ready for the week ahead (mostly caring responsibilities not fun things like cupcakes and events sadly)

A woman with shoulder-length dark red hair, wearing black and pink eyeglasses, a silver heart-shaped pendant necklace, and a white long-sleeved pajama shirt printed with colorful teddy bears holds a white ceramic mug of frothy coffee in her right hand. She looks directly at the camera with a slight smile. She wears a purple apron printed with teapots, teacups, and the Hello Kitty character wearing a unicorn headband. Visible text on the mug reads Hello Kitty. The background shows a plain light-colored wall, a dark rectangular object to the right, and a textured surface below.
