Today is the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Cable Street. The painting has the title of "Cable Street" but it is actually a view of Grace's Alley just off Cable Street. It is by Albert Turpin who was arrested on the day & who would later become Mayor of Bethnal Green in 1946. #AlbertTurpin

To complete our portrait themed week I thought I'd give you all "two for the price of one"! These two portraits are called "Sally" by Albert Turpin. The first one dates from c.1927/8 & the sceond one from c.1931/32. Both are of his wife, Sarah Jane who was known as Sally. #AlbertTurpin
