The "89 Percent Project" (Covering Climate Now × Oatly) What it is: A global collaborative journalism initiative launched by Covering Climate Now, a journalism nonprofit. Its premise: a 2024 peer-reviewed Nature Climate Change study of ~130,000 people across 125 countries found 89% of people want their governments to do more on climate - yet most assume they're in a minority ("pluralistic ignorance"). In the US, 66-80% of people actually support major climate policies, but Americans perceive only 37-43% do. The project's theory of change: if people knew they were the silent majority, political demand for climate action would rise.
