To me, this illustrates faith beautifully. This monument stands in Poublenou Cemetery in Barcelona. They rise on a pillar of cloud, all of their feet in mid-air. The sky was a remarkable Mediterranean blue that day. Day 16: faith #31DaysOfGraves

A white marble sculpture depicts a woman swooning against the bare torso of a male angel. They seem to be rising into the sky.

Day 16 of #31daysofgraves: Faith. The allegorical figure of Faith was a popular monument style during the 19th century in American garden cemeteries. This one, with the anchor (an abstracted cross, according to some scholars), is at Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston, Massachusetts.

#31DaysOfGraves #Music My 1st cousin twice removed, Duncan Ewen McQueen (pictured), was 1/2 of a music hall act called The Two O'Malleys, "Irish comedians" (he was a Scot) in the late 18th/early19th century. No gravestone exists but there is a grave. In Sheffield.

A head shot of a man in his 30s, possibly, wearing a wing-collar shirt and tie under a wide-lapelled jacket, with a white handkerchief in the breast pocket. He has short dark hair with a horizontal fringe and is looking almost wistfully into the distance. The photograph is signed "Dan O'Malley".An extract from a burial index. It reads "McQueen, Duncan Ewan (theatrical artiste, age 43). Died at Wadsley Asylum; Buried on July 3, 1906 in Consecrated ground; Grave Number 11586, Section " of City Road Cemetery, Sheffield." Day 11 Humorous
Back in Highgate Cemetery and in case you're wondering.
midlandsrainbow.wixsite.com/lgbtq/post/l...

A close-up photo of a weathered, speckled grey headstone for Tom Wakefield. On the left side, there is an arched, engraved illustration of a man with glasses and a mustache sitting on a bench, holding a cigarette, with a cat sitting by his feet and a book resting on a stand in front of him. On the right side, the engraved text reads: "TOM WAKEFIELD, WRITER EDUCATOR, MOTHER, 1935 - 1996".

Day 10 Missing

This is a close-up photo of a weathered, dark stone monument or headstone set against a tan brick wall. A large, vertical strip of the stone's face has peeled or worn away down the center, obscuring much of the carved text. The visible inscription reads "IN MEMORY OF," followed by partial names and dates, including "AND MARY ANN," "WHO DIED NO... 1847," and "THEIR DAUGHTER... DIED NOVEM...". Small green weeds are growing at the base of the stone.

Day 9 Lettering

A weathered, arched stone opening frames a view of an old, moss-covered graveyard. In the center stands a prominent, aged headstone dedicated to Hannah Thackery, who passed away in 1845. The stone is surrounded by overgrown grass and other partially visible grave markers in the background.

I'm late - but given the subject - late seems appropriate.
Day 7 Home
A man's home is his castle. Anyway this is the Navvies memorial in Otley.

This photo shows a weathered stone monument in a graveyard, resembling a miniature castle gate. It features two round, crenellated towers flanking a central archway. To the left stands a tall, aged headstone, and another headstone is visible through the arch. The monument is surrounded by overgrown grass, with a black wrought-iron fence and lush green trees in the background.

After some searching, we found this old graveyard in Dumfries where some of my paternal ancestors were laid to rest. It was tucked away, but to my surprise we did find a headstone belonging to a relative & it was just over the wall from the Rabbie Burns mausoleum!

#31DaysOfGraves #Dumfries #faith

A large stone marking the site of an old Catholic graveyard in Dumfries. The inscription reads: "The cemetery of Holy Cross was consecrated in the presence of the Catholic congregation on the 15th of April 1855."You really wouldn't know this was once a graveyard, would you! (it just looks like a plot of grass, mostly)
