#ElberryCove #Devon on 26 June, as Suffolk sweltered in record high temps, was pleasant 21.6°C, sea a warm 20.2. Besides green #algae Broadleaf Sea Lettuce (Ulva lactuca) & Gutweed (U. intestinalis), red algae, Common Coralline (Corallina officinalis) & Devil's Tongue Weed (Grateloupia turuturu).

In beautiful Elberry Cove #Devon, other brown #algae include Beanweed (Scytosiphon lomentaria), Thongweed (Himanthalia elongata) & sadly, great forests of the alien #invasivespecies Japanese Wireweed (Sargassum muticum) 1st recorded in UK 1973 on Isle of Wight. #PhycologyFriday #marinelife #seaweed

Of course at Elberry Cove there is an abundance of characterful Shannies (Lipophrys pholis) in all their rich variety of colouration & pattern; like rockskippers they can survive out of water.
