#WordWeavers 27/9: What interesting quirks do your characters have?
I don’t think in terms of ‘quirks’; that smacks (to me) of assembling characters from a kit of parts, like a glorified Photofit picture. To work for me, characters should be whole…

#WordWeavers September 26: "Authors talk about how smart their MCs or villains are, but have you ever written a slow-witted character?"

I try to never call attention to how smart or otherwise my characters are. There will always be a reader who is smarter or otherwise to say I'm wrong.

#WordWeavers Sep 26: Authors talk about how smart their MCs or villains are, but have you ever written a slow-witted character?

This sits a little ill with me, because someone can be ‘slow-witted’ in one area and bloody brilliant in another. I'm probably rather dimly lit compared with plenty of […]

Justin in The Silk Mind isn't shown as particularly quick-witted. He's barely literate (but likely the first in his family to learn to write at all). He's rough around […]

There’s one in my current/next WIP. Though it’s probably more accurate to say he lacks aptitude for critical…

#WordWeavers September 25: "Do illicit drugs or alcohol play a role in your story?"

The Embassy stories have a common bookend that involves alcohol. It's one of the things that unifies the stories.

My yet untitled "1984 San Francisco Urban Fantasy" absolutely has drugs. But they're medicinal. 🤓

#WordWeavers 9/25 Do illicit drugs or alcohol play a role in your story?

Belle Epoch series, certainly

Dust is a kind of meta-addictor, that addicts you to some specific sensation related to your initial experience of it

Pinkie is an addict, and the Atraxians dose Renny with Dust when they […]

#WordWeavers 25 Sept: Do illicit drugs or alcohol play a role in your story?

Drugs, no. Did consider some type of drug for Book 2 of Solen Masters, but I could drop it. Alcohol on the other hand is available in both Solen Masters and Project Watt. The Bar Mage of the Golden Sea main character […]

#WordWeavers Sep 25: Do illicit drugs or alcohol play a role in your story?

That depends... do you consider massive doses of chocolate and dopamine illicit drugs?

#WordWeavers Sep 25: Do illicit drugs or alcohol play a role in your story?

My mad scientist abuses drugs so often, he needs to get messed up at lunch so he can reenter work due to the retinal scan.

As one does.

Nothing illicit. And alcohol is the only drug of note, but lots of significant conversations take place in pubs, with an occasional…

'Baby Shark'. I'd put it on only to annoy them.
