Years of making birdhouses have paid off. I needed a way to exhibit my #artbooks so I made this nifty wall pocket out of #reclaimedwood 📚 Works well, looks professional. It’s half a roof ✅ #art #printmaking #woodworking

Good weekend relaxing in the shed.

Had another go at a spindle for a spinning wheel. I have the original, and I've had 4 or 5 goes at replicating it now. None of them up to snuff so far, will see if the new one works.

A photograph of a spinning wheel spindle, still attached to the lathe.A photograph which shows 5 spinning wheel spindles next to each other. The far left, and darkest, is the original, the next one was my first attempt which is too long, the third has a non-centred hole, the fourth has a couple of deep scores where I lost control with the skew, and the last one is my latest attempt. It's not the same shape as the original, but it is about the right length.A shot showing the end of three spindles, the middle one has a non-centre hole.A shot of me holding the finished spindle in my hand.

Today has been very satisfying even if its only been simple boxes. I’m very happy with the tolerances I was able to hit today with the joints. Still got lot to learn and improve on but today felt like visible improvement for me. #woodworking

Set of wooden boxes iv made today using box comb / finger joints.

Got my two boxes iv made today glued up and clamped and something times they end up somewhat biblically accurate in that form. This small one is just a test bed for my cuts for the larger one but ended up with a box out of it that will finish up nicely. #woodworking

Smaller box next to slightly larger box both made with box comb joints clamped and glued

Another leather burnisher in beech. The latest two were made primarily as fidget toys for a friend and his son.

Doing this with scrap to just test the tolerance of the jig so zero planing just using as much of the scrap pallet length as I can and turns out they are a perfect fit! Been doing a little dance cos nice to have it work out and gonna be silly now making boxes for fun #woodworking

As close to perfect as I could get. Had to shape the curve to try to get the contact to be as close to opposite the hole as possible. I’m sure there’s a way to construct that but I don’t know it. #woodworking

Is it satisfying? Yes or no?

Was kinda curious about some of the old desk hardware I've got laying around. Cut one into a planing stop for #woodworking

Before/after shots of some old desk hardware I made into a planing stop. Also a file, square, drill bits, 3in1 oil, etc. scattered around the workbench. The new planing stop screwed onto the workbench with a random piece of pallet wood on it, along with my jack plane and a brush I use to sweep dust off the workbench.

Beech box with charred oak lid. This is the last one of this set for a while, much larger . This one will be a gift.

The charring process changed the shape of the knob, it's no longer round. I can't decide if I like the fire damaged look or not. Should I remake it?

Spoon day! My stock is running low which means that I get to whittle forever to catch up.

Alder blanks.

After 30+ years working in #construction, I've picked up a few tricks.

I've written up how I lay wooden #flooring, from preparing the sub-floor and setting out the first boards to using a flooring nailer, dealing with awkward corners and making a Sapele threshold.
