“It’s to keep us safe,” he explained. “It takes out the uncertainty of nature. Having a digital programme in place to support the population means infant mortality is a flat zero, the same as disease. No hunger, no thirst, no need for sleep if we don’t want to…”
“But you could theoretically still suffer from mental or emotional harm?”
“Yes, absolutely.”
“You could still exhibit symptoms such as, let’s say, a delusion about who you are and the nature of your existence?”
Marcus realised he was gripping the bed too tightly, and he forced himself to relax. “Sure.”
“Hm. Interesting.” As if this was nothing, Sera turned to face her medical terminal and focussed on her work.
