#QueerPrompts

i grew up fundamentalist in the 80s and 90s. I am not kidding that positive queer rep, especially directed at young people like Rick Riordan is doing now, might have changed the course of my fucking life. a few years ago when i saw the cover of the Nico/Will book i wept for 30 mins.

Oct 10 world mental health day. has positive queer rel helped your mental health?.

October #QueerPrompts 6. National Coaches Day: Any coaches in your story? (fitness, life coach, etc.)

I don't think any of them have the official title of coach, but there are a few members who kinda fit the role: Haltack, Sojna, and Ellienne.

Hell yes. I was incredibly lucky for my generation and was introducd to the idea of queerness at 14 through positive queer rep. Not that my parents had any clue, thankfully.
I swear that saved me from a ton of intenalized queerphobia I never got a chance to pick up.

Several in DEAD BEATS.

Seymour comes into his bisexuality in college. Gina’s also bi, but she’s been out since puberty, and helps Seymour process his journey.

Kent got divorced when his ex-wife came out as a lesbian, but it was amicable, and he gets along well with her new wife.

#QueerPrompts October 11: National Coming Out Day: Do any of your characters come out in your story?

Graphics: The background is jack-o'-lanterns and an open book. The border has a broken chains saying "BANNED", a rainbow saying LGBTQ History, hands holding pride flags and flags for asexual and transgender people, and cute Halloween characters.
Text: "October 2026" on top and "#QueerPrompts" and "Host: @CJAralore" on the bottom, all in a rainbow font.

This is THE main reason I absolutely adore the Valdemar Saga of Mercedes Lackey. The most poignant example is a tragedy, The Last Herald-Mage Trilogy, but the namesake protagonist's overtly and very explicitly gay - and the not 🧵

Absolutely. Positive queer rep has helped my mental health a lot. Seeing queer characters get to be messy, loved, happy, and allowed a future makes the world feel a little less lonely.

Sadly I didn't start reading queer books really until after I came out. I really could've used books with characters like me when I was at my worst, feeling completely alone. I hope my books can one day help queer kids who were in my boat.

I'd say queer rep full stop, positive, sure, but also all sorts of fucked up and flawed, and messy, and bold, and dark, and mostly filled with sex and blatantly unfiltered stories and storytelling. Writing them helped more than reading. It's a life force.

#QueerPrompts

Absolutely, resoundingly YES! I’m doing what I can to pay that forward in my own stories.

#QueerPrompts

Yes.

At the very least, it entertains me and gives me hope.

Born in 1970, what I can say is that I wish positive queer representation had come around sooner. Pretty much the only queer narrative character I remember from days of youth was Baron Vlad Harkonnen of Giedi Prime. Not exactly an image to strive for. 🧵 1/4

Honestly? I can say it certainly has given me relief & a safety to express my interest in queer relationships. I've been repressing them for so long/taught that it was wrong. But now it feels liberating

@silentbutcuddly.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 7:02 PM

Yes.

I came of age in the late ‘90s and early 2000s and had to search for scraps of queer rep of any kind. And I was shocked by the lack of diversity in the stories I read.

So, I decided to to change that by writing my own stories filled with Black and brown queer peeps. #queerprompts

Yes. Once I got myself unknotted, there were huge gaping holes of neglected feelings that seeking out queer fiction is helping heal

@vincentlore.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 4:34 PM

#QueerPrompts

Honest answer: no. Unfortunately the world is at a point where fiction in general can no longer help my mental health. I love it, don't get me wrong. But I don't read it for my health, mental or otherwise.

Absolutely. I started reading queer books secretly in high school and it helped me understand so many things about myself that had been eating away at me.
