This camera is one of the newer models that allow us to zoom in and pan around the scene. Expect to see different views occasionally as we aim it at different parts of the Lake McDonald Valley. This image is from a research camera positioned on a cone in Mauna Loa's Southwest Rift Zone in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. The camera looks northeast (upslope), focusing on the middle part of the Southwest Rift Zone. The volcano's summit is at upper right. The webcams are operational 24/7 and faithfully record the dark of night if there are no sources of incandescence or other lights. Thermal webcams record heat rather than light and get better views through volcanic gas. At times, clouds and rain obscure visibility. The cameras are subject to sporadic breakdown, and may not be repaired immediately. Some cameras are observing an area that is off-limits to the general public because of significant volcanic hazards.

North Shore Webcam, Isle Royale National Park

From one of the highest Isle Royale peaks at 1,133 feet above sea level (roughly 530 feet above Lake Superior), the North Shore Webcam, located at the peak of Mount Ojibway, captures a northern vantage point. The angle offers views of Lake Superior, Canada's Pie Island on the left, and Canada's Sleeping Giant Provincial Park at center. The webcam is solar powered and communicates multiple times per day, year-round, when power and communications infrastructure allows.

I went to Yosemite last year to capture the beauty of the Sierra in a new light. When I arrived, the rangers were using fire to clear out the underbrush, and the valley was filled with smoke for days. Is Crater Lake visible today? Sometimes the lake is hidden by clouds, especially in the winter. This view looks north across the lake from the Sinnott Overlook at Rim Village (elevation 7,100 feet). On a clear day, it takes in Wizard Island, Llao Rock, and Mount Thielsen. Image updates every 4 to 6 minutes.

This webcam shows two views each day. First, it aims down the St. Mary Valley to watch sunrise, before swinging east to show the meadows beneath Mount Reynolds. Also visible is the short, paved nature trail that takes visitors through the meadow around the visitor center. This webcam is brought to you through a partnership with the Glacier National Park Conservancy. Want to see all three Logan Pass webcams at the same time?
