Frank Turner - Get Better
So try and get better and don't ever accept less.
Take a plain black marker and write this on your chest:
Draw a line underneath all of this unhappiness,
Come on now let's fix this mess.
We can get better, because we're not dead […]

For a guy who's 14 years younger than me, Frank Turner doesn't half write a lot of songs that seem to speak to my stage in life!

🎹 It was 1975. My beloved funk was integrating into my new obsession, jazz. Then Earth Wind & Fire teamed up with Ramsey Lewis. Glorious.
🔊 Three years later my college chums and I packed into a small dorm room with two towering speakers, turned out the […]

@joncounts.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyThe music I find most powerful is the music that I don’t understand and briefly transports me to some bigger, different place.
For the #PersonalPlaylist theme for #JukeboxFridayNight here’s an old example of a song I keep coming back to when I need to shove my brain away from normal: “Maze” by […]

I have no idea if that is what the song is even about, but this song has helped me with many a stressful situation and always comes to mind with the relief when that situation ends

@debe.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyBack in the days of 56K modems, Our Lady Peace streamed the live behind-the-scenes making of this video and chatted to fans and everything. It was pretty cool. I tuned in from my student flat in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Driving along with this playing not long after our eldest had graduated from the neo-nates ICU, and when that chorus hit so did a lot of pent up emotion. It had been a ride :)
Also one of my favourite Shihad videos and the band themselves aren't even in it […]
@carey.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyI sang along to this so much after it came out that for a while I could beat the kids at it on Wii Sing. Those days are long gone, though.

In the winter (appropriately) of 1992 Tori Amos' Winter came out and it was like nothing I'd ever heard on the radio before (91ZM was a bit different back then). It wasn't until early 1994 that I finally picked up a copy of Little Earthquakes, and heard […]

Thinking of my "personal" playlist with over 300 songs on it, or the 40+ mix tapes and CD's I've made over the years or the 500+ CD's and tapes in my house, which may still be rookie numbers compared to some, but still we could be here for a while even if […]
@debe.mastodon.nz.ap.brid.gyThat time my family went to visit my in-laws and I stayed home with the animals, and had a private party and went through a floorboard in our lounge*. LOL.
