般若。

燃えるほどに、笑みは深くなる。

Hannya — smiling through flame and smoke.

#和柄 #JapaneseArt #Hannya

A cream-colored Hannya mask with long ivory horns and a deep fanged grin fills the center of a black square. Red flames curl around its left side, dark smoke coils along the right, and a thick braided rope with white paper streamers frames the mask.

「いつまで、いつまで。」

疫病の都。紫宸殿の上で、名のない怪鳥が鳴いた。

『太平記』から四百余年。鳥山石燕は、その声を「以津真天」と名づけた。

In the Taiheiki, it had no name. Centuries later, its cry became its name: Itsumade.

By Okada Saburōsuke (1869-1939), Portrait of a Lady, 1907, oil, 733x615 cm, Artizon Museum, Tokyo. #arthistory #oilpainting #painting #japaneseart #asianart More info in ALT.

From the museum: “Okada Saburosuke won first prize at the 1907 Tokyo Industrial Exhibition for this painting, which initially was entitled Study in Purple, a reference to the purple cords that lace the drum. The woman wearing a Genroku-style kimono and her hair in a chignon seem about to strike the drum. In the background is a Rimpa-style folding screen with a design of fringed pinks and flowing water. This painting was commissioned by Takahashi Yoshio, who was involved in the management of Mitsukoshi Drapery Store and had touched off the Genroku motif boom. The subject is his wife, Chiyoko. This familiar painting was used in a poster for the Mitsukoshi’s Spring New Pattern Show and later as a postage stamp.”

いつまで。

人の顔、蛇の身、鋸のような歯。

京の空で「いつまで」と鳴いた怪鳥。

Itsumade — the bird that cries, “Until when?”

Should Itsumade emerge next?

#和柄 #JapaneseFolklore #JapaneseArt

An isolated black and indigo Itsumade with a pale humanlike face, saw-toothed beak, long serpentine body, spread wings, and blade-like talons coils around a cream crescent moon and compact storm clouds. Muted red feathers accent the aged woodblock-style illustration.

Moonlit Crossing
A floral-robed figure drifts above a red arched bridge
#JapaneseArt #SurrealArt #GeishaArt #InkArt #SakuraArt #AIart #AIchallenge #aiartcommunity #aiartist #GenAI #GenerativeArt #SynthArt #BuilderofNightmares

A vertically composed Japanese-inspired illustration centers on a solitary floating figure above a traditional red arched bridge. The figure is viewed mostly from behind, wearing a loose teal robe patterned with soft pink cherry blossoms. A wide red sash wraps around the waist, while oversized sleeves billow outward as though caught by wind. Dark hair is gathered into an elaborate arrangement around a stark white circular head or mask dominated by a large black center. Thin decorative pins radiate through the hair. Behind the figure, a huge coral-orange circular sun fills much of the upper background, edged with rough white and teal brushwork. Long black calligraphic strokes sweep dramatically across the composition, looping from the lower left around the figure and across the upper right. Below, the red bridge rises toward the center beneath the hovering figure, surrounded by stylized white-capped waves. Teal, coral, black, white, and orange paint splatters cover the textured, paper-like background, combining traditional Japanese visual motifs with energetic contemporary ink illustration.

Keywords: Japanese-inspired, floating figure, floral robe, red bridge, circular sun, cherry blossoms, ocean waves, ink strokes, teal, coral, paint splatter, surreal
