The font at Tewkesbury Abbey is a bit of a hotch potch. The Purbeck marble base is possibly from a 15thC monument that was subsequently removed whilst the capital decorated with ballflowers could be 14thC.
The marble bowl was carved and added in the mid 19thC, a pleasant hotch potch!

#FontsOnFriday This font at Chester Cathedral was assumed by the Victorians to be an ancient fifth century originally - actually it is a nineteenth-century copy. No matter, it fits beautifully in the stone vault of the Baptistry.

Rectangular stone baptismal font supported on a pair or narrow columns at each corner.the stone panel on the long side facing the bower bears carving including 2 doves. There is a tall pyramidal font cover made from red and gold cloth and the structure supporting it is surmounted by a gold ball supporting a gold flying dove.

For #FontsOnFriday, here are two baptismal fonts located in Paisley Abbey, our #ScottishChurchOfTheWeek.

On the left, a polished Pavonazzo marble and Mexican onyx font donated in 1902, on the right a grand polished marble font, relocated from a nearby United Free Church following its dissolution.

He da big boi #FontsOnFriday from Kilpeck, #Herefordshire, made of sturdy breccia, one of a number of these stonkers in the county. On surprisingly delicate voluted legs. See ⬇️ for the interlaced font stopper, now on a window sill.
