Today we have a very special #FindsFriday ... a timelapse of the micro-excavation of the Iron Age Norfolk Carnyx Hoard.
Itโ€™s pretty amazing to see the micro-excavation process and get a glimpse of the carnyx, boar standard and shield bosses as they're revealed.

Goodness! So many lovely photos for #FindsFriday - I wish more of them had alt text so they'd be more accessible, more discoverable and it would be possible for me to share them.

The Vale of York Cup was found in 2007 by metal detectorists near Harrogate in North Yorkshire. It was probably buried shortly after the West Saxon king Athelstan conquered the Viking kingdom of Northumbria in AD 927. Seen in the British Museum.

This Roman radiate is of Marius who ruled for a brief period in AD 269. The reverse depicts clasped hands & the legend CONCORDIA MILITVM which translates to "harmony with the soldiers" or "unity of the army". #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/pas/recorded...

Hiding in Battle Museum of Local History are lovely plaster fragments that once decorated the nearby roman baths at Beauport Park. The purple, yellow & red lines would have bordered a central scene, and different paint layers suggest redecoration happened at some point ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ.

#OTD in AD 275, the Roman Senate chose an emperor for the last time; they elected 75-year-old Marcus Claudius Tacitus. Tacitus died of fever after a rule of just over 6 months. This radiate was minted during his short reign. #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/pas/recorded...

These so-called glass claw beakers were distinctive art forms for early Anglo-Saxons in England and northern Frankish kingdoms. This one was unearthed at the Ringlemere barrow in Kent. The moulded glass appendages look very octopus-like.
