Working on a new map: Breasal. This time, I started with the sea and I'm playing with the different shades of blues and turquoises.

Why does a hillshade light the land from the northwest at 45 degrees? Cartographers have used it since the 1950s because light from that direction stops ridges looking like valleys.

The colour scale on a drone elevation map is deliberate. It is perceptually uniform, so it reads correctly in greyscale and for every kind of colour vision. Do not change it to rainbow.
