This vinegarroon is one of the few named species of this order from the entire Mesozoic era. It already looks quite modern in every details, and shares a lot of features with the current vinegarrons living in the Americas.

Size : 12-ish cm of body length
Time period : Early Cretaceous

Poked around the yard last night after dark and took some #arachtober portraits. This is Say's Armored Harvestman (Libitioides sayi) which by name and appearance would fit in just fine in the Advanced D&D Monster Manual I had as a kid.

The springtail is elongate and soft bodied, covered in fine pale hairs that catch the light, with a small dark eye patch and long segmented antennae, one raised upward and the other stretched forward. Its legs grip the tips of dark maroon, nearly black florets that are stiff, pointed, and covered in a glossy pebbled texture. The springtail is brightly lit and seems to glow against the dark background, while the surrounding florets fade into soft blur toward the edges of the frame.

Large, extremely rotund spider, beige in color with a vague black crescent across the front of the abdomen. Legs are pale with faint darker bands. Spider is sitting in a silken retreat adjacent to its circular web, under the eave of a building.
