Good morning everyone! I'm currently listening to the fifth book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl Series: "The Butcher's Masquerade" by Matt Dinniman. This series is so much fun, and there's a lot more to it than one would think.

Good morning, Susan! Happy Sunday to the #ECK worldwide. A #BlueBrew request, please, as my workweek winds down. For #BlueBrewBooks I'm finishing "Double Shot" by Diane Mott and moving on to "Red City" by Marie Lu. My wife recommended, so must be good. (The Godfather meets The Magicians.) Great day!

The Godfather meets The Magicians in the sweeping adult debut from #1 New York Times bestselling author Marie Lu. Perfect for fans of V.E. Schwab, Red City is a dark and deadly contemporary fantasy of magical warfare, star-crossed ambition, and the pursuit of perfection at any cost, set in a glittering alternate Los Angeles.

Good Morning Susan and fellow book lovers! Discussion topic for #BlueBrewBooks:
I recently read this book with a protagonist that was very unlikeable. Yet I was thoroughly invested in the plot outcome. Have any others come across books like that?

For #BlueBrewBooks this is my current read. It’s the second book in a trilogy (but the author is working on a 4th book now). Set in the 6th century AD, in what is now Scotland. Historical fiction and light fantasy.

Morning, Susan ☕️ 📚

Here to share #BlueBrewBooks and #eck #BlueBrew, thank you.

Sharing Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Green City Wars, reviewed: winteriscoming.net/book-review-...

The protagonist is a lovably flawed, raccoon detective, surviving in the animal underclass of the future.

A Jimothy hero! 🦝

Well, hello Baroness of the Beanery Susan apDavis Cushing and how are you this #Stunday? Ready to begin a new chapter in the #BlueBrewBooks story? Do you imagine yourself reincarnated as a versifying barista babe? May I interrupt your reverie to ask for a beaker of your brew in return for a "rose"?

A bit of a cheat this as it is an Evening Primrose, glowing with morning raindrops. However, it does have the word Rose buried in there and it is fitting on Yellow Sunday. Also it is quite lovely, so what the heck.

#BlueBrewBooks #BookSky I read a fantastic book this week, “The Botany of Desire” by Michael Pollan (2001). It’s about the co-evolution of plants and people, focusing on four diverse plants: apple, tulip, marijuana, and, most interesting to me — the potato! Go to ALT

As you can see, I read it with pen in hand. “The Apple” is great at blending in the story of Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman) and his quest to bring seeds West in America. “The Tulip” blends in the outrageous story of the tulipomania rage in Holland that brought the nation’s economy down in the 17th century. The section on the exploits of the “Marijuana” plant gave a look at, among many other things, amazing hydroponic farms and their growth and regulation at the turn of this century, and “The Potato” section was a fascinating monoculture rabbit hole. Subtitled “A Plant’s-Eye View of the World,” the book is exactly that, a view of how plants have influenced us as much as we have them. To find out more, you’ll have to dig in yourself. Superbly written. 245p.
H/T to Shantha Mohan for reading this with me, and to Trina Carter for the initial recommendation!

This week's book was Still Life, by Sarah Winman. I was hesitant because I feel the WW2 era as a setting has been overdone, but I was happily surprised. Highly recommend!

Photo of the cover of the book Still Life, by Sarah Winman. It features a gold and blue mackaw with outstretched wings, a blue leafy border with yellow lemons and oranges.

Though the settings are integral to the story, and lovingly rendered, they are a background for the wonderful characters.
At first, the dialogue reads like a 40's noir movie. It's written without quotation marks and is central to how the story unfolds. You feel as though you are hearing the words spoken.
The characters are human, flawed and I loved them all.

Good morning everyone! I'm currently reading this month's #BannedBookSkyClub selection, "Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett. This is my first time reading one of her novels, and it's delightful!
