Collaboration was key - needed to involve all cataloguers in developing the new system and workflows.
There was a need to focus on the WEMI LRM framework with entity-based relationships in subject-predicate-object triples (RDF) #bfwe2026

Clarivate has been working with ~34 libraries to test the Linked Data Editor in Alma. The feedback is mostly ontology related so Clarivate are working with Library of Congress on this. The community of practice is also working on templates #bfwe2026

The BIBFRAME ecosystem is currently built on pilots and small scale projects - rather than globally shared models and governance with reusable application profiles and agreements over what can be shared and what stays local - we need to decide is the metadata open? #bfwe2026

Adina turns to cataloguing for the AI era (not around it) using machines to draft, suggest, match, and enrich at scale, but keeping the metadata anchored in existing identity, relationships and provenance, with human judgement and review #bfwe2026

The ontology is not a workflow, it needs governance and ownership - exchange will not work without data synchronization rules between systems #bfwe2026

@emmabooth.eurosky.socialSep 9, 2026, 9:13 AM

Clarivate have learnt that BIBFRAME adoption by libraries will be contingent on the them seeing the added value so that they can justify the change to workflows and trust that adoption is worth the investment #bfwe2026

Alma can display BIBFRAME as RDF/XML but also as a Table view of Property and Classes and a Graph view.
The Editor is form-based with look-up services to Library of Congress vocabularies (with further APIs planned in future) #bfwe2026

@emmabooth.eurosky.socialSep 9, 2026, 9:05 AM

The Editor is a front door but not the destination - it should allow users to get familiar with workflows related to BIBFARME cataloguing of Works and Instances but also allow discovery and reuse #bfwe2026

@emmabooth.eurosky.socialSep 9, 2026, 9:02 AM

The biggest challenge is not building a BIBFRAME Editor but establishing the governance and workflows - how do you teach staff to use the tools you need, what workflows do you need, and what are the policy decisions required? #bfwe2026

BIBFRAME 3.0 officially integrates the Performed Music Ontology (PMO) into the main Library of Congress BIBFRAME 3.0 Announcement vocabulary to improve linked data modeling for musical scores, recordings, and performances. But this requires further domain extensions #bfwe2026

BIBFRAME provides the foundation but there are semantic gaps when considering Iranian music, so cultural extensions are needed to preserve interoperability #bfwe2026

A domain-specific model including the structure of performance for Iranian music, includes Iranian terminology and new classes and specialised relationships that relate to the improvisational and oral tradition of the traditional music of Iran #bfwe2026

Avazes: It includes five secondary vocal modes, or avazes (such as Dashti and Abu-Ata).
The BIBFRAME model Work, Instance, Item does not map directly to the Radif of Iranian music - a modal layer is required #bfwe2026

Dastgahs: The modal systems or tonal spaces (typically seven core modes) that organize these melodies.
Performance: Used as a foundation for improvisation and composition rather than played strictly as written notation. #bfwe2026

The same is true of RDA Attributes and BIBFRAME Properties.
Especially as BIBFRAME does not have an Expression level.

There are very granular Work relationships in KCR5 and Official RDA that do not map directly to BIBFRAME #bfwe2026
