Is it still possible to work a YA with a younger protagonist in the current market? (Ex like T.L Huchu’s Library of the Dead has a 14 yo protagonist but is not MG)

Will there be agents and editors who accept MG and YA? #AskDV
#askdv what are agents/editors looking for in YA these days? What’s commercial/salable?
#AskDV what do you wish authors asked you about more? Particularly when you’re meeting to discuss offers of rep.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I think noting that the character is neurodivergent in the query is enough. #AskDv

I heard there's an uptick in interest for cozy graphic novels. Any you love? I hv a cozy-ish fantasy graphic novel w/some spice. looking 4 comps 🧚🍃✨
I’ve heard that attending book cons and writer conferences is very important for marketing books.
Are writers from distant countries (not based in the US or Europe) at a disadvantage when seeking represention and going on sub because they wont be able to attend as easily as others might?
As long as you mention it in you query and that agent doesn’t mention they’re not open to seeing the same story again. I would just be sure to mention it in your query!
In a query: 1) Who's the mc/mc's, 2) What do they want and what will they have to do get it, 3) What happens if they succeed, and what happens if they fail? Plus bio and book info.
In a pitch: Pretty much the same, but in sentences instead of paragraphs, and minus the book info and bio.
I think they are! Those are usually pitched as contemporary or urban fantasy. It’s all about how the fantasy/magical elements are explored/explained in this world that matters. Every agent and editor has different taste, though. #AskDv
Great question! I always recommend only having one to three scenes per chapter. If you are changing settings more times that’s a sign to cut or merge. And of course every scene should contribute to the story arc. If not enough is happening/your character hasn’t changed you can likely remove.
Is it bad form to re-query agents that you previously queried with the same story, if you’ve done an extensive revision that shifted the story from 1st to 3rd? #AskDV
I’ll echo this!!!

What is maximum wordcount for adult horror? Thank you!

I would love insight into the Early Reader market place right now. We are in need of that bridge between picture book & chapter books more than ever
I don't mind when an author who queries me is interested in multiple genres; it can make it easier to sub multiple projects at once! Broadly speaking, planning the next book usually depends on where we are with submissions, whether something is under contract, what the option clause is, etc. #AskDV
This will vary slightly by story, but the inciting incident should happen fairly early. Probably between 10-15% of the way into the manuscript. #AskDv
