macro photo of a pale green-and-yellow Tamiami green crab spider, clinging tightly to the edge of a vibrant pink giant crinum lily petal, showcasing its translucent green raptorial front legs and broad, rounded abdomen. The smooth texture of its body stands out in crisp detail against a deeply shadowed, dark background bokeh.
A wasp resting in profile on a bright yellow wildflower, featuring a black head and thorax intricately marked with yellow stripes. Its abdomen displays striking, segmented yellow and black bands with a dimpled texture. Its slender yellow legs are planted firmly on the brown, textured disc florets of the blossom, and its smoky, translucent amber wings are folded flat over its back. The backdrop is a clean, dark blend of muted forest green and out-of-focus yellow petals.
Wasp with big black eyes, dark grey antennae extended in front of its grey face, black and grey legs with lots of spikes and blue-black wings folded over its body, crawling over dead leaves and twigs.
A pair of mating Stagmomantis carolina, the only mantis native to Illinois. The female is about twice the weight of the male, robust and highly camouflaged, brown with spots and a few muted stripes. The male, mounting her, is smaller, with dark brown-black wings and bright green legs. They blend into the tree bark they're on very well.
