Mancinelli: Have you ever approached the rentalsman's office, the authority that oversees this?
McDougald: No. #yqrcc

Mancinelli: Have you ever approached the rentalsman's office, the authority that oversees this?
McDougald: No. #yqrcc
Mancinelli likes the idea of the city going out to event w/ book of locations w/ lead connections (the city did this at the Arts Fest street fair this year). #yqrcc
Mancinelli: Rental office is provincial, we're municipal. Do you have other suggestions on how city can help educate?
McDougald: Community Assns can put on things, but not everybody goes. They think it doesn't have anything to do w/ them b/c they don't have a clue. #yqrcc
McDougald: I don't want people to put their health at risk not knowing they're getting poisoned every day. #yqrcc
Up next, Beverly McDougall, she's from Heritage area. She says she concurs w/ everything Elliott said but would like disclosure to tenants in affected areas. #yqrcc
Elliott: Can guarantee that a mailout will get to everyone who needs it or that they can read it. Reaching out through the schools would help.
#yqrcc
Froh: Have you heard from new canadians who may not have ability to advocate w/ landlords or don't even know about the lead risk?
Elliott: Of course we've seen that. You have to get rid of the lead, that's the only sure thing. But there are language barriers. #yqrcc
Elliott is pointing out how in the US where they do mass blood testing for lead, they have found that lead in blood is higher in folks who've been arrested for crimes. #yqrcc
Here are the options that city admin are proposing. Get The Lead Out are opposed to Option 1 (b/c it sets completion target of 2036… so, 10 years from now). #yqrcc
Elliott: I think you could get this done in 7 (as opposed to 10) years, if not sooner. #yqrcc
Elliott: You need to look at setting the bar higher. #yqrcc
Elliott: You'll need more attention to the road budget b/c these sites need to be cleaned up after the work. #yqrcc
Elliott: I'd like to see more advocacy w/ other levels of govt. That could be your legacy, safe drinking water. #yqrcc
Elliott: So I'm worried council will say that we have orthophosphate and we don't need to do anything else. #yqrcc
Elliott: There was discussion of orthophosphate, that does help. But Health Canada released their guidance & it says that treatment alone will not provide full protection from a lead line. Also, it's not immediate. #yqrcc
Elliott: We met a resident who was happy to move here but found out that the water in their rental property is full of lead so they're now taking on the cost of breaking their lease. They want to know why this is even legal. #yqrcc
Flores: Could you speak beyond the option of accelerating the replacing of lead pipes, what else could help?
Elliott: I wanted to raise issues for renters. We had a meeting about this & see a need for mandatory disclosure to residents about lead in their water. #yqrcc
Here is Elliott's presentation to council… #yqrcc
First up, it's Trish Elliot from Get The Lead Out, speaking in favour of Option 2 & against Option 1 in the lead replacement program. #yqrcc
Community non-profit tax exemptions pass unanimously. #yqrcc
