I didn't even know there was a video for this song. Sooty and Sweep are in it. My dad is going to lose his mind at this #XTCmusic

Thanks again to @mealygarage.bsky.social for tonight's @xtclisteningparty.bsky.social. Really looking forward to Oranges and Lemons as it includes probably my favourite #XTCmusic song (at the moment)

Been thinking the same thing too this evening. All these rejected songs make such coherence when done this way. #XTCMusic

@benbaker.bsky.socialSep 16, 2026, 8:32 PM

I really do think they made an error not making this an XTC track as its a stunning piece of music that not nearly enough folk know. #XTCmusic

And we bring tonight's listening party to an end with PALE AND PRECIOUS, a Beach Boys homage - though apparently when Brian Wilson heard the track he thought it a nod to Paul McCartney instead. #XTCmusic

@rahrahrock.bsky.socialSep 16, 2026, 8:30 PM

@xtclisteningparty.bsky.social I love the fact that pretty much all of these songs were all rejected at some point for XTC but re-purposed for The Dukes. #XTCmusic

@xtclisteningparty.bsky.socialSep 16, 2026, 8:28 PM

THE AFFILIATED - Intended for inclusion on the next XTC album (which would be 1989's Oranges and Lemons), The Affiliated was instead slightly tweaked to give it a Ray Davies/Kinks vibe and added to Psonic Psunspot. #XTCmusic

Newspaper clipping from Huddersfield Daily Examiner, Sat 22 Aug 1987. Text reads:

"The Dukes of Stratosphear: Psonic Psunspot. Virgin V2440.
My first thought on this LP was what a lusciously over-the-top gatefold sleeve. Second thought - who are The Dukes of Stratosphear? I can't say for sure but will give you my educated guess at the end of this review. In the meantime, let me tell you something about the music. It's very late sixties-ish, powered by flowers and totally mind-expanding. @xtclisteningparty.bsky.social If you haven't heard or watched it yet, there was a recent interview with John Leckie talking about The Dukes: thestrangebrew.co.uk/video-john-l... #XTCmusic
